interior was. ute, service was great and the food was amazing. they actually live up to the hype and it has now easily become a fave restaurant of mine! the mackerel toast was top tier and that’s coming from someone that doesn’t eat mackerel like that.
we also enjoyed the black miso cod a lot. it was very soft and had a nice smokey flavor when you’re taking a bite. highly recommend ordering it.
the hiramasa was also a favorite. the flavor profile was 10/10 but i wish they gave more slices of fish cause 4 pieces feels like JAIL. minimum should be 6 imo
we got the chicken and their striped bass special as well and while those are good i think they’re not MUST orders though still very delicious. my top 3 would be mackerel toast, hiramasa and the black cod

This place doesn’t need my praise, but I must give it. By far, one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Everything was well balanced, perfect portions, innovative final presentation of masterfully executed dishes. The open kitchen allows you to marvel at these chef’s talent, and the wait staff, exceptional. Dave was our server and he helped guide us to all the best the menu had to offer. (Which honestly I believe might just be every dish on there. All major hitters). Favorite bites- the swordfish skewer, the lemon posset dessert, and the eggplant and lafa dip. Book ahead, or go by for a 5pm walk in sign up. You’d be very lucky to enjoy an evening here.

Loved my first experience at Theodora a few weeks ago and had to run it back with some friends. The food is always fantastic, some of the most unique flavors in NYC! The ricotta toast, octopus and trout is a must, but the SWORDFISH and the cheesecake??? Didn’t know it could get any better and it truly did. Dave was our server and was absolutely amazing, perfectly polished but so cool and hospitable where you feel right at home.
Theodora is currently our favorite restaurant!! We will be back!! ❤️
Photos are from last visit, so no sword fish or cheesecake ):

Some of the most spectacular fish I’ve ever tasted outside Japan. Extraordinary creativity; each dish had several delightfully surprising flavor combinations. But the star is truly all the fish: cod, trout, branzino. Relaxed but energetic vibe permeates the entire space.

Theodora is my favorite restaurant in NYC right now. The whole menu is spectacular. The sourdough is incredible, but the swordfish might be the best I’ve ever had. The whole team is superb. Special shoutout to Bella who is my favorite waiter in NYC. She makes every visit to Theodora feel like coming home. So grateful for Theodora and Bella. I come back monthly and that’s only because I live in Manhattan. If I lived in Brooklyn I’d be there weekly!

Incredible experience at Theodora from start to finish. The food, service, ambience were all outstanding. It’s been a while since I have been truly wowed by a restaurant in New York; Theodora has the X factor I was looking for. The overall vibe and culinary quality reminded me of Silvia in Woodstock, NY.
The food was excellent and very unique. The wood fire oven dishes were all perfectly executed and had great character. The service was very hospitable and our bartender went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience.
We waited out at the front around 4:45 PM and had no problems getting a table at the bar. I highly recommend this approach to anyone looking to try Theodora as the Resy approach has proven very difficult.
I can’t wait to be back and try more of what Theodora has to offer.

Fantastic food and service. We came by the opening and were seated at the table without reservation but with limitation to 2 hours which was enough. Also bar seats at that time were available. Photos taken speak for themselves but in reality the food is even better.

Amazing experience here - for the price food was an 8/10 but overall was top notch
Magical ambiance and the best bathroom I’ve ever used
Super friendly staff too
Amazing Mediterranean sharables with a hint of Mexican influence and loads of character
A+ across the board. Unbelievable service. Sitting at the chef’s table was a little smoky but a blast. Was nearly impossible to get a reservation and I hate to say it but it’s worth the hype! Hope we’re able to land another reservation again soon because I’m going to be thinking about this meal for a long time.
The sourdough topped with whipped ricotta was delicious, and the broccolini was even better. Both dishes had a perfectly balanced flavor; it was just right! We also ordered the half chicken, which took a little while to prepare, but it was worth the wait.
One of my favorite places to eat in Brooklyn. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We have tasted both trout dishes, the ricotta on sourdough, the lamb flatbread and the half chicken plate. Highly recommend this restaurant. One of the rare menus where you don't have to be worried about what you order because everything is delicious!
