Tip-Top Bar & Grill is a beloved community staple that has been running for at least 50 years. Despite the changes in the neighborhood, stepping inside the bar brings a sense of warmth and nostalgia, reminiscent of a grandmother’s basement. The space feels like a time capsule, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The bar is operated by three incredible women, often assisted by their family members and their beloved bartender Rudee. Everyone in the bar has plenty of stories and wisdom to share, creating a family-like vibe.
The bar is not known for fancy cocktails or wines but offers strong, affordable drinks like the Jell-O shots that are well-made and not watery. The jukebox is modern and has almost every song imaginable, and when not in use, it’s because a group is hosting an event with their own DJs. The place also hosts monthly events such as comedy shows, birthday parties, and a backyard night market and after-party in collaboration with Sterling Place Productions. These events leave vendors satisfied, guests joyful and fed, and the bar very happy.
Recently, visitors have praised the bar’s friendly service, pleasant atmosphere, and memorable drinks like the Rum Punch, which is delicious, strong, and not too sweet. The staff, including Linda and another woman who makes the Jell-O shots, are appreciated for their kindness and skill. Customers often enjoy conversations, good company, and the overall vibe, making them want to return. The food, made with love, is expected to be just as good as the drinks, prompting visitors to come hungry next time.
The bar also evokes nostalgic memories of simpler times, recalling moments when the city felt different—more relaxed winters, snow days, and a sense of hope. Tip-Top remains a great bar where the community gathers to enjoy good drinks, good company, and a comforting atmosphere.
