Trash Island used to be one of my go-to spots before this change in ownership. Now it feels sterile and dim, the coffee dipped in quality, and it seems like the chill and kind (and mostly queer) staff was fired. Walk an extra block or two if you’re looking for coffee. Bummer.

It’s really sad what happened to Trash Island. This used to be such a cool and positive space with an amazing queer staff who had all been there for years. It was a rare space where you could pop in and hang out and genuinely be treated like a friend. (Or even actually make real friends and build community.) Unfortunately, it was recently sold to new owners who fired all three of the long time staff. The new owners are more interested in turning a quick buck instead of investing in the neighborhood. There are numerous good coffee shops nearby - leave trash island in the past and go support another business.

The coffee was okay! There are places I think taste better. That's why I would give it the 3 stars. I do really like the vibe of the place and the customer service was really great. It's a fun brand for sure. The lines aren't too long and they have areas for seating which is great and not always a given. I think it's a very convenient place, but not my favorite.

Trash Island is the opposite of trash and far from an island as the coffee and food are top notch, and the service and atmosphere is warm and inviting. I don’t even drink coffee regularly and I will definitely be coming here often.

Grabbed an oat milk latte here. Barista was friendly. Lots of people working indoors. Outdoor seating was available. They do have stamp cards available for returning customers- just ask for one. Coffee was middle of the road for me (nothing spectacular or horrendous). No pastries, just banana bread that I could see out on the counter. A few people working on their laptops indoors.
Very friendly staff, great coffee! They even have some outside seating. Great little neighborhood shoppe.

Usually lovely!I've come in here a couple times and I adore the space. I always get the chai cider, it's wonderful. Last time I went in though, the server was not very friendly - they barely responded to anything and did not seem happy to be there. Maybe they were having a bad day but it made the place have unwelcome vibes. I also ordered a piece of banana bread for $4.50 and it was so tiny! Not sure if this is always the size but it was quite literally 3 bites.I wont give up on this place but I think the atmosphere depends on who's working

Very comfortable neighborhood vibe with lively decorations. Cappuccino was good and yuzu olive oil cake was dense and yummy. Peppermint tea was strong. Cozy indoor seating and outdoor tables too.Nicest barista I've seen in NYC. So friendly. I walked in with two huge suitcases and sat there for about 4 hours while waiting for my airbnb check-in. Purchased several items during that time, of course. Still thought I'd get kicked out at some point or at stared at offensively, but the barista didn't even bat an eye. Was going through a difficult week apartment hunting and really appreciated the kindness and welcoming attitude. Highly recommend!
