My boyfriend secretly booked Ume for my birthday/our anniversary celebration, without even knowing I’d been dying to go.
The garden seating is beautiful despite being a bit too shiny. The whole ambiance is so zen and relaxing which makes it perfect for a special occasion.
Huge shoutout to the impeccable service: we were 30 minutes late stuck at traffic, but they still graciously held our table. They even surprised us with vanilla gelato with honey and kinako on the house, easily one of the most delicious scoops I’ve ever had.
*Sushi Set $78 pp
It was such a fun and interactive experience making our own hand rolls from a sashimi platter. We loved being able to enjoy everything at our own pace, customizing each piece with a variety of dipping sauces and special salts. It really encouraged me to slow down, savor every bite, and fully appreciate each piece.
*Literally Everything Don $60
We were greedy to try more so we got one more kaishindon. Expensive but you get what you pay for: uni, ikura, scallop, toro, a5 miyazaki wagyu, caviar, and more. Every bite was pure luxury and satisfying. I only hoped I could only get this don as I was too full after finishing the sushi set, but they require at least one sushi set per person.
*King Salmon Nigiri
To be completely transparent, my bf found a small bone in his sashimi. He was given a completely new set, and they even treated us to king salmon nigiri. We really appreciated how proactive and thoughtful they were so it didn’t affect our overall experience at all.

incredible place, best fish I’ve had outside of Japan, thank you!
This is hands down the best sushi I’ve had in the United States of America. The experience is pure beauty with no mistakes. The service is the best I’ve had, the atmosphere is excellent.

My sister and I took our father to Ume for his birthday.
Ume isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a full experience from the time you walk through the door to when you leave. We decided to make our reservation in their garden and it was worth it. The atmosphere is so clean, refreshing, and comfortable that we completely forgot we were still in Brooklyn. It’s not just the décor that set the atmosphere either; the service was above and beyond. You don’t receive hospitality like this often, which makes the experience even more special and memorable.
I regret not getting our server’s name because he felt so genuine and positive. Because of a big storm passing through, our food was delayed a bit. Honestly, we didn’t even notice. I’ve waited significantly longer at other restaurants for my food. But our server so apologetic for having us wait even that little bit of time, he made sure we had the best experience possible for the rest of our meal. When he found out it was my dad’s birthday, he even surprised us with (easily) the best vanilla gelato we’ve ever had at the end. The people there have such kind souls, and I want them to know it’s so so so appreciated. They add so much to the experience.
In terms of the food; saying the menu was amazing is an understatement really. You can tell there was thought put behind every word on the menu and placement of the food on the platter. There’s a reason why there are recommended instructions on how to eat the Prix Fixe meal, so we can enjoy the food in the best way possible. Definitely take your time and savor every bite!
Ume has a level of perfectionism that I really admire. I’d genuinely love to know the thought process behind the choices made from the décor to the combination of ingredients and seasonings.
This was an unforgettable experience and I know my father will be talking about this A LOT from now on. It’s completely worth the price! You’re not just paying for the food, you’re paying for something I’d consider an art.

The food was fresh and pretty. Each bite was different and flavorful. I do wish they provided enough seaweed for all 12 pieces.

If you really like sashimi, and I willing to spend $80 or so, it’s a really great experience. It’s very unique with like 12 different types and all sorts of different salts from all over the world.

you must sit outdoors! it felt as if i was transported back to kyoto. it’s a diy omakase + hand roll with different seasoning and sauces. i enjoyed a few bites, some fish pieces were not my favorite. i do think they need to give more seaweed pieces to fish count ratio. service was great, servers were attentive and explained how to enjoy the meal.

This is such an amazing spot. The vibe was welcoming and calm. I went here for my anniversary. The food was amazing and the gelato was one of the best we’ve ever had. We were taken care of by Tony. Shoutout to him for his hospitality and attention to the little details. It really made us feel welcomed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. It really lives up to the hype.

Worth the hype! Took my partner here for his birthday and it was a fun experience with yummy food. Everything was delicious. Note: we didn’t know there’s not enough nori for each piece of fish so we ordered more ($2 for 6 pieces) or I guess you can rip them in half. Ambience, service and music (relaxing lo-fi hip hop vibes) were nice. Bathroom is clean and has a cute notebook log. Wish there was a hook in the bathroom to hang my purse instead of keeping it on the floor. For birthdays, they were sweet and give you complimentary gelato with a sign and candle. Overall, would recommend and go again for a special occasion!
