For my entree I got the Great Lakes Walleye. It comes with edamame succotash, hominy and sage dumplings and tomato confit. The walleye was expertly prepared, tender inside and crispy skin on top. Delicious. I wasn't expecting too much front the accompaniments, but again I was pleasantly surprised.

We were not to be disappointed. The place is beautifully renovated and historic "speak easy" . We shared the Pappardeli pasta dish, roasted cauliflower and roasted asparagus. Everything was yummy, nicely herbed and cooked to perfection. The pasta could have been warmer but it still tasted great. The Rhode Island lager "Narragansett" is to die for, if you've never tried it. Apparently the beer has been around since the 1890's and I only just discovered it. The bottom line: this is an excellent little Restaurant, bar, hang out. Highly recommended.

Had a great meal at Buffalo Proper, a place were told was famous for its cocktails, which it may be. We had wine and a meal, one item being half a head of cauliflower roasted, which was flavourful and very edible. Would return again for sure for the food. Maybe have a cocktail next tine. My spouse said to me as we left, whoever the Chef is they will go a long way, as they really understand flavour and the right combinations.

It's too bad this place closed. The cocktails were always so delicious and unique and the food was incredible! Especially the garlic butter they would put on steak and thin cut fries. I wonder why they even had to close, I never had a bad meal here once!

There's no real Proper way of putting this other than I wish that this place was still open. What was once known as one of the most popular & highlighted Cocktail Bars/Restaurants in the midst of the Downtown Buffalo scene has now closed its doors. A place that specialized in American Cuisine with Global influences, where people can come in and feel like they were transported back to the 1920's with its old school pre-prohibition vibe. The restaurant had 3 Floors to it when you walked in you'll notice the Bar straight away, go up the stairs and you'll be in the Main Dining Area with an outdoor Patio seating overlooking the Street and you could glimpse at Downtown Buffalo whether it was in the hottest of summer or the harshest of winter. Up on the 3rd floor was the Kitchen are all the Appetizers, Entrees & Desserts were prepared for Service (that must've been fun for the Staff to walk up & down with that Food). My only experience at this place was back in 2016 after I mentioned this place to my Brother. We just finished up tasting about a dozen Soups at Soup-Fest at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center and we were looking somewhere just to get a drink and a bite to eat. With a limited amount of money in our pockets we both decided just to get an Appetizer each and a Cocktail or 2. Nathan ordered a Moscow Mule (he loves Vodka), and I got a drink called Night in Tunisia with consisted of both Light & Dark Rum, Campari, Orgeat, Pineapple, Lime and Rioja. It was placed in front of me with a menacing Face and color mixture of Orange & Dark Red. I was not gonna let this intimidate me from taking a Sip. Both the Light & Dark Rums balanced each other out like Yin & Yang. Nathan got a bowl of Mussels Escabeche with Toast Points to dip in the Tomato Broth, he said they were good but wished they were bigger. My Plate was something you'd never expect to get, one of the specials of the night. Escargot (Snails) braised in a Caraway Liqueur and then glazed with a Smoked Butter with Celery Root 2 Ways (Pureed & Chips). Chewy Mollusks that are cooked down in a Anise flavored Liqueur to give them a pleasantly sweet flavor. The Smoke from the butter was subtle and to have 2 variations of Celery Root, Smooth & Creamy and Crispy. I also ordered another Cocktail, Snake Charmer which had Tempranillo (Red Wine made from Spanish Grapes) mixed with Rum, Lime, Sugar & Mint. This drink served in a Tall & Cylindrical glass with a foamy head sitting atop of the Glass. I can see why it was named that as the Sweet Grape Notes of the Wine and the Fragrance of the Mint Leaf drew in a "Charmed" my snake of a Tongue with each sip that I took. Once again before leaving Nathan decided to get another Moscow Mule while the night was still young (its his go-to Drink). We finished off out meal Properly and left shortly afterwards, Its a shame that I never returned for a 2nd time, it never happened and now it never will. Shame that Buffalo lost a really good Eclectic Establishment but we know that it got a "Proper" send off !!!

Nice craft cocktails with good food and a limited eclectic menu.

I've been here before and thought, "It's great but above my payscale!" However, I discovered their two can dine for 99 menu! Check it out on their website. For $99, you and your guest each get a choice of salad or french onion soup; a choice of several entrees, and a dessert - PLUS a bottle of wine! It's a great deal. Now that I've discovered it, I'll definitely go more often. The food was excellent and they didn't skimp on serving sizes, atmosphere terrific, and nice service. Go and enjoy yourself!

Some other guys and I were walking to meet friends elsewhere and the weather started to turn so we hopped in. We ordered a nitro on tap. They had the lines crossed and it took a second for then to straighten it out. Due to the inconvenience they gave us all a shot of whiskey while we waited. Won points in hospitality. Great whiskey selection. If I didn’t have to get back I would have tried some of their vast whiskey selection. Will definitely try again.

Great cocktails and the steak is fantastic - the 2 lb tomahawk is worth it

Well everybody seems to mention this Place Buffalo proper Buffalo proper. Why is it that I've never been to Buffalo proper. Could it be that I just don't have enough cool people in Buffalo to take me to such a place. Maybe I just need more cool people around me.

What a disappointment. Went here before the Robert Cray show (Incredible) but half the menu items were unavailable. My first four choices of entree - nope, dont have??? "Didnt get to the market yet this week". What??? The items they did have were very good only adding to the disappointment of how good what I actually wanted would be. Waitress was ... well ....unpleasant and uninterested in our disappointment - couldn't care less and VERY unpleasant. Worst experience here ever - what a shame. What was a good spot going down the drain. I will try again before writing this place off because it used to be so good...but too many good places now to put up with this bad service. I'll let you know how it goes.
