We had a group meet here for a birthday, the drinks were great, service was attentive, and the food was delicious, and of course every room is decorated so cool, including the private room we were in, the gold room.

For the most part, this is a great spot with great staff. However, I had a serious issue involving one of the owners/investors, Barry Heneghan. In my experience, he brought a personal dispute into the business by telling employees he did not want me in the establishment. This was connected to a prior security-deposit dispute involving 78 West Holdings LLC and related entities.
My roommate and I challenged how our security deposit was handled, involved an attorney, and the deposit was eventually returned. I acknowledge that the issue was resolved, but the way it was handled created an unnecessary conflict.
Based on my experience, I believe his involvement reflects poorly on the organization and creates avoidable risk. In my opinion, the company would be better off without this type of conduct representing it

Such a hidden gem, the cocktails were amazing, atmosphere was very suave, it's what I imagine the now defunct Playboy Lounges of the 1960s were like back in their hayday, and the service was fantastic. Our server was Amira and she made our stop so memorable. The idea of the hiddenness of the High Violet helps promote the speakeasy atmosphere.

My girls & I were made to feel like we were bothering the bartenders for wanting to order when it was no where near closing time. They had four behind the bar. One on dish, another on his phone, and the other two acting completely oblivious to our presence. After several attempts to get their attentions without being forceful, another staff member had to get one of the bartenders to take our orders after noticing us look around confused. It felt weird. When you have a bar full of white guest being catered to and we’re the only Black Women in the entirety of the space, it feels almost intentional. The bartender was super dismissive and hated having to greet us. Poured us all uneven shots, so when I went to ask him what’s up with that he rolled his eyes and stomped away. Overall ugly energy.

I reserved the Jungle Room for my birthday celebration, but last minute we went from 7 to 12 people. They were so quick and accommodating, moving us to the Red Room without any hassle. The vibe was absolutely perfect, it felt like a little slice of a fancy NYC spot, tucked away in this Buffalo speakeasy. It truly brought my vision for the day to life: friendly staff, an incredible atmosphere, and great drink prices with amazing flavors. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate.
