Before writing this review, I want to note that I rarely leave Google reviews. Unfortunately, my experience at Johnny D’s was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share.

This was my first visit after hearing many positive reviews, so I chose to dine here on New Year’s Eve expecting an elevated and elegant experience with two close friends. Upon arrival, we waited approximately 5–7 minutes before being escorted to our table. While we were seated promptly, we were not offered a choice of seating. I would have preferred one of the booths along the wall; instead, we were placed directly in the center of the dining room beneath the chandelier, which felt less intimate than expected for a fine-dining setting.

Menus, silverware, and water were brought quickly. However, I was surprised by the limited entrée selection approximately 7–8 options, the majority of which featured seafood. For guests who do not eat seafood, this left very few choices. When our waiter approached, his demeanor was subdued and impersonal, and I do not recall him introducing himself. He asked if we would like beverages beyond water and whether we were ready to order, with little engagement otherwise.

I ordered the burrata as an appetizer and the pesto pasta, adding steak, as it was one of the few non-seafood options available. My companions ordered the chicken parmigiana. After about a 20-minute wait, our meals arrived and were attractively plated.

Unfortunately, the execution did not match the presentation. While the steak and pasta were cooked properly, the dish lacked seasoning entirely and had very little flavor. The peas in the pasta were noticeably undercooked and unpleasantly crunchy. I shared the dish with my dining companions to confirm, and they agreed. They also described their own entrées as underwhelming.

Additionally, the bread served with my burrata was excessively hard far beyond what would be considered properly toasted. I chose not to mention this during the meal, as I did not want to seem confrontational or disruptive, particularly in what is marketed as an upscale dining environment.

Service was minimal. Our waiter checked on us only once. At that point, I was ready to receive the check. One of my friends requested a lemonade, which never arrived. When the waiter returned, he asked whether we wanted to-go boxes. I declined politely, yet he returned with boxes and proceeded to package our meals without further confirmation.

The final bill was particularly surprising. I was charged $55 for a pasta dish that lacked seasoning and included undercooked vegetables. Our total came to $144 for three entrées and one appetizer. Given the quality of both the food and service, this price point felt unjustified.

Overall, this experience fell far short of expectations. Based on the restaurant’s reputation, I anticipated a far more refined level of cuisine and hospitality. I hope these concerns are addressed, as I would like to see this establishment live up to the standards it presents.

MUST TRY ! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a smiling face & prompt service ! I felt like a VIP and the drinks/food matched the quality 🔥 Throughout the night I was constantly waited on & turns out my amazing experience, from who I thought was just a server, was actually the store manager himself, Dan! Humble & delightful to match.

Johnny D's was amazing the food was amazing I had the French onion soup it was layered perfectly in flavor would come back just for that. My partner got the scallops and said they were delicious. If the food wasn't good enough the service is better everyone was beyond friendly and kind. Our waitress Audy was amazing from the second she greeted us to the end of our service she made our night so great and enjoyable. We will be back soon to try more menus items, the atmosphere was wonderful but the staff made us want to come back again.

Well, decided to take a break from home cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and went to Johnny D's at The Hyatt Regency Hotel at 2 Fountain Plaza in Buffalo, NY. I definitely do NOT recommend them, and safe to say, I would NEVER go there again!!! The bill for 3 people came out to about $400!!! 3 turkey dinners that tasted worse than frozen T.V. dinners, green beans that weren't cooked, potatoes and stuffing that were about 1 and a half tbsp. in portion size. The owner came to introduce himself and said dessert was included with dinner on the menu. He mentioned that they had carrot cake, but NEVER mentioned that there was a $24 upcharge per serving!!! Terrible experience, to say the least, and like I said, I will NEVER subject myself, or others, to that GARBAGE, EVER again!!!

We were a party of 4 for Thanksgiving dinner.
First some background-we booked without reading any reviews first, because we had wanted to try this place. After making our reservation we started reading reviews and we got nervous as the are many unfavorable. And we had an awful experience at Eckl's last year. We were very pleased with our experience and will definitely return.
Well, we had a great experience from beginning to end.
Morgan was our server, she was friendly and attentive.
The timing of our meal was perfect for a holiday dinner as we were not in a hurry. 5pm reservation and after some chitchat at the end we were out the door by 745pm.
Cocktail pricing is average for a hotel restaurant.
Our appetizers and entrees all came out as ordered and expected. We had 2 salmon, one steak, one turkey dinner. Turkey dinner could have been warmer but it was fine. 4 dinners+6 cocktails and bread service with tax was $406.
Now, just a couple of observations/critiques:
*Have staff check tables and chairs before service. Our table top was very wobbly. The move was seamless and we chose a table near the windows.
*When the dining room isn't full, don't seat everyone together. When we were sat, the dr was not full but we were sat next to a large party of 8 or 10 and another 4 top. I understand it may be convenient for servers but weird and uncomfortable for diners. Fill prime seating first.
*When suggesting appetizers above the prixe fixe menu, make sure it's understood there is an additional charge. We were offered bread service but didn't know it was additional till the check.
Again, a great experience and we will be back soon.

They have the best happy hour in Buffalo. I have been there several times. I’m pretty sure they do it every day from four until six. Everything on the menu is incredible. They have very good drink specials as well.

From start to finish this was a horrible experience. The worst part being an HOUR after we ordered our food- after appetizers were eaten I was told the entree I ordered they didn’t have. While they did offer to make anything we were on a time crunch (which our server said she could make the dinner happen in that time frame- they did not) and I didn’t want to delay the rest of the tables food coming out - which was a joke anyways cause it took well over an hour from appetizers being finished. Numerous other issues from waiting 30mins just for water to the manager being rude and lying to us. Go to just about any other restaurant in the city for better service & food.

Elena the best bar tender and server. I will highly recommend this place. I order fish and chips. It’s not really deep-fried. I don’t know how to do it but that’s the best fish I ever had. I recommend this place.
