We were blown away with the flavors of the food served at this restaurant. The quality, the ambience , and the decor were all top notch! This was our first time visiting The Black Walnut. We had the Grilled Beans, The Fish, Squash, Tuna Carpaccio, and Duck Breast. The flavors and perfect cook of each and every dish were like nothing I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve dined at many restaurants in and out of the city.
We briefly thanked the chef for the outstanding meal and promised myself to leave a review once I got a chance. If you’re thinking about putting this on your list, I’d say move it up to the number 1 spot! I highly recommend making a reservation now! Don’t wait.

The restaurant has a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere that blends old-world design with modern comfort. The space itself feels special — high tin ceilings, soft lighting, and thoughtful details that make you want to slow down and enjoy every moment. The menu changes with the seasons, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Service was friendly without being overbearing, and the cocktails were some of the best we’ve had in the Catskills. Callicoon’s historic small-town charm pairs perfectly with this kind of refined, yet approachable dining. Black Walnut is the kind of place you plan a trip around — and we’ll definitely be back.

On top of the immaculate/impeccable vibes, they were able to host my close friends wedding that I had the pleasure of photographing a few weekends ago with delicious food and wonderful full service drinks. Not just writing this review because I love the owners (although I really do.) The food is genuinely some of the best I’ve ever had. Their menu is seasonal so expect it to frequently change, but that’s part of the magic of this place. Chef Camille is extraordinarily talented. If the charred beans are on the menu, immediately order them. The decor is on point, and the drinks are superb as well. 10/10 no notes.

I recently worked with this restaurant's owner, Shawn, to host a large group, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, Shawn was incredibly communicative and went out of his way to accommodate every detail we needed, while being overall a pleasure to work with.
The space itself is stunning, exactly the kind of stylish, elevated atmosphere our community has been needing. It’s trendy without trying too hard, and makes the perfect backdrop for any special gathering.
As for the food, absolutely immaculate! Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor, and the service was flawless throughout the entire event.

A hidden gem in Callicoon, NY! We had such a wonderful time at Black Walnut in Callicoon! Dillon, the bartender, was absolutely charming and mixed one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time. He also had fantastic wine suggestions that really made the evening special. Shawn, the owner, came around to chat with everyone—he’s so warm and welcoming, and truly made us feel right at home. On top of that, the space itself is gorgeous—beautifully designed, cozy, and comfortable, with such a homey vibe. A perfect spot to relax, sip, and enjoy great company. We will definitely be coming back.

Chocolate cake with ice cream was served...a hard, cookie with a scoop of ice cream...no soft cake of any kind. The Pork Belly had No Meat...just a gob of FAT...disgusting. Nice atmosphere, awful food...save your money.

The design detail … tapestry wall paper, lighting, dried willow arrangements, the crafted glassware on your table …felt like observing an art & design masterclass. Romantic and opulent European vibes. Food was fantastic and incredibly flavorful - what a chef! Every staff member there was so attentive and friendly. A top fine dining experience - still blown away by all the thoughtfulness and detail that Black Walnut showcases. Bravo!
