Horrible experience had drinks dropped off.. one out of two wrong and never saw the waiter again… WOW I actually have to hunt you down to pay for my below average meal.. never again
The waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable of the restaurants beginnings . The food was excellent and the margaritas were to dye for. I’ve been to every state in the US and this place is one of two Mexican restaurants that I can say the food was worth every dollar I spent and again the margaritas left me for wanting more. Anytime I’m in the area I will stop there to eat. Try it for yourself.
What a unique gem! We happened upon this place expecting Americanized Mexican fare and got authentic Pacific Coast Mexican! Absolutely delicious and unique dishes that never disappoint. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was a delight! She gave us terrific suggestions... like the beer batter shrimp tacos and made our experience even more enjoyable!
Have not visited in sometime. Had lunch today, two types of menu meal items, entrée and plates. We have been to other Mexican restaurants where they bring you chips and salsa while you wait. This was not offered here. Plates did not come with rice and beans so it was offered as an add on. Surprised to get the bill to learn rice cost additional $4.25 and beans $3.25 for each plate ordered. For two of us, added $15.00 to bill. Would Provide a discounted price if paying in cash. We would have saved $2.00 on $50.00 bill. Plenty of parking, easy access.
Staff is very helpful, management is understanding with requests. We love the food, atmosphere, and tasty desserts. A great place!
We ordered an appetizer and an entree and I still left hungry. I usually need a to go box when I eat out, but the portion sizes here were very small. They also don't serve complimentary chips and salsa which was disappointing.

With the exception of the guacamole, which was excellent, it was overpriced and mediocre. The tortillas were stale and the food just wasn't great. I could have got an equally good meal from Taco Bell at far less cost.

We had a very disappointing time at Rio last night. Four of us came for dinner and ordered simple margaritas right off the menu. When our drinks arrived at our table, we knew immediately they were incorrect after dining here before. Our server informed us that the bartender was new, and that she had to inform the bartender as to what Tajin was for the rim of the glass. Two of our margaritas had to be remade 2 more times, and one of us dining still wound up with the wrong drink instead of the Authentica that she ordered, and they did not taste as though they typically do. At this point, I would have thought that our drinks would have been comped, however they were not. Our server brought out an extra side of Pico "to make up for the drink mishap". Our server was excellent and the drinks were not her fault, however it's disappointing when an establishment doesn't try to own their mistakes and make it right.

Our recent visit to Rio Tomatlan in Canandaigua was fantastic! From the moment we walked in, the service was phenomenal—attentive, friendly, and fast. We started with the guacamole, which was fresh, flavorful, and the perfect appetizer to set the tone for the meal.
The Burrata Rafael was an absolute standout—soooo good! It had a delightful balance of creamy burrata with a Mexican twist that I’ll be craving again. My son devoured his quesadillas in about three seconds flat—always a good sign when he’s happy with his meal!
The only slight letdown was the pink drink of the month, which was just “meh” compared to everything else. That said, it didn’t take away from our overall experience. We’ll definitely be returning for more!

We are always delighted with the presentation of food and complex flavors in whatever we order. Rio Tomatlan is one of our “go to” restaurants of all time. Always delicious food and great service!

Super cool spot with great food and tons of cool authentic art. We had the QUESO FUNDIDO and the TACOS SARANDEADOS and oh man both plates were awesome.

We attended a Rio Tomatlan catered wedding last night, Rio staff provided an amazing experience! Bar Service was outstanding, the drinks excellent, food and fare was certainly on point. Such a great offering and outfit, really nice having them on site! 10/10 recommend

My wife and I couldn't decide between tacos de nada, flautas, tostadas, or sopes, so we didn't we ordered the antojitos platos which let us choose which of these we wanted.
The details of flavor and texture we perfectly thought out with each item. The barbecue beef (barbacoa) was my favorite flavor profile. I tried the pork and the chicken as well. None were anything approaching bad.
We ordered dessert and coffee because given the meal it seemed likely that these would have been well thought out and skillfully prepared items. Yep! We had the "chocolate flan" which is a flan on top of a chocolate cake which sounds like an odd combo but if you like flan and chocolate cake you'll like this. Even the coffee did not disappoint, as they brew it with cinnamon in it, giving it a warmth that matched the service we got from our server.
Our server was warm and kind. Even the hostess was sweet in a more quiet kind of way. My wife and I are not exactly folks you would expect to see in such an obviously artsy place, but we were welcomed in and that was nice.
The atmosphere is playful if yet a bit arty at times (this is probably impossible to get 100% since tastes are so varied). Some of the art pieces have real merit to them, some are just for the vibes, others are pretense. We didn't go to see a gallery, we came to eat amazing food (and we did). Overall the atmosphere was a call to enjoy, relax, and not take oneself too seriously and that was a welcome reprieve.
