Alton Brown of Good eats on food TV. Once famously said at once a place becomes famous for a thing. They quickly become the worst at making it.
This is unfortunately far too true for anchor bar.
At the time of my service, the wings were not thoroughly cooked so some of the wings were still cold inside and the fries taste it as if they had been sitting for quite some time. The sauce was just so so and being a born and raised buffalo native I hope this lends gravity to what I state.
Whereas The original anchor bar may have been the innovators of Buffalo Wings. There are so many others that have far surpassed it.
While the customer service is outstanding, the atmosphere is very welcoming and despite being in the airport the service is fast and friendly.
But I don't know how many times you can say for a restaurant... come for the service but stay despite the food.

Every year I must travel twice in 10 days to Buffalo, ( hidden gem of a small city, in my opinion. ;). )
I don't have enough time due to turnaround time frames to visit the true Anchor Bar in the heart of this great town. However. Beef on Weck is an absolute must! Same wonderful, delicious, drippy goodness is found at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. YUM!

I had three drinks and they cut me off for no reason and told me to go home. Wish I could get my 25% tip back. I didn’t cause a scene or do anything but it was totally ridiculous. Clearly they just wanted to go home at 10pm on a Saturday

Quick dinner here before our flight. They were busy but smoothly handled the customers. We had Wings, Beef on Weck with a side salad, and the Turkey Club Hoagie with macaroni salad. The wings, Beef on Weck and the hoagie were all very good. The only minor disappointment was the salad lettuce was not that fresh. The service was very good and our iced teas were refilled even before we asked. For airport food this was very good and prices reasonable.

Waitstaff was friendly and very prompt; food was out so quickly, we had two beers, an appetizer, and an entree all within about half an hour and the food was very good for an airport bar

I was surprised how much food we were served. Typically airport restaurants don't give you much food for the prices they change but we were happy with the guantity and quality.
