Called in an order for a small rice 2 rolls and a soup to go. The lady told me 30 minute wait as it is Friday. I told the lady I was waiting in the parking lot and could they expedite it. She said she would try and call me when ready. 30 minutes later still waiting. Another 5 go by and I go in. One of the ladies had me waiting another 5 and asked me to pay. So I said how much longer. The actual woman who I spoke with comes in and says it will be another 15 to 20 minutes. She said they ran out of rice. I told her she should have called me because she knew I was waiting in the car. She said oh well. Mind you we've been coming here for years. Foods a hit or miss. Either great or so so.

Nisen always preforms at the top of there game. Live entertainment was perfect sound level and added the perfect ambience. The food was as always fresh with terrific flavor. Our server was attentive and friendly

I lived in Japan for 4 years, and spoke Japanese. I know a little something about Japanese food.I'm well aware that Nisen has been here for 20+ years and kudos to them. The wife and I decided to give it a try.We walked in and immediately were put off by the neon disco look. Dark dining room? In a sushi place? No.We also smelled a slight odor of fish as soon as we entered: a VERY BAD sign. The hostess was very robotic, a Chinese girl who had probably been there since early in the morning. Not even a "Welcome", just took two menus and led us to a table. We can only eat one dinner a day, so we called an audible at the line of scrimmage and decided to leave after looking quickly at the menu (the prices are reasonable).I never ate their food, but when I eat sushi, I want an authentic experience and this didn't seem to be it.If you don't know sushi from barbecue, and want to impress a date who doesn't either, knock yourself out.

Almost from the 1st day they opened in the original location in Elwood it has been amazing. From watching Tom making us Sushi to growing the business to meeting his wife and children as-well as making friends. The consistency and quality has never changed. ?

First time here. It was highly recommended by my friend. It was truly an amazing dinner experience. A little pricey for certain items. (I have expensive taste I guess.) I added a special coupon in my reservation and forgot to apply it. Will definitely return to try more of the menu.

We’ve tried practically every Japanese restaurant locally and Nisen is definitely our favorite! We love the Omakase, which is unbelievable every time; literally the best, but everything we’ve had there is awesome! The sashimi and sushi are always so fresh, and the chefs do an amazing job. Shoutout to our favorite waitress Sandy, she’s always so friendly and accommodating, and takes great care of us! Go check out Nisen!

This is a great little sushi spot. I usually go here after visiting the stores in the plaza. The service is always fast and the food is always fresh. The sushi rolls are great and the fried oysters are amazing. Overall a great place.

The freshest sushi I've had in years in the coolest atmosphere. Nisen goes above and beyond to serve fresh, quality fish—and you can taste the difference. Every roll is beautiful and well thought out. Prices are fair, and portions are large! They have a wonderful happy hour every day of the week and even live music on the weekends. The staff is kind and welcoming, and the owner Tom is a ray of sunshine. I love the fun customers I meet, and the ambience is modern, vibey, and club-esque in a classy way. My favorite sushi restaurant on LI. Don't miss the beautiful craft cocktails and the big bento dinners as well!Vegetarian options: There are many vegetarian options—many sushi rolls are vegetable only, and there are salads, edamame, shishito peppers, tempura vegetables and fruits, and more.Dietary restrictions: Nisen is always sensitive and open to working with your dietary restrictions.Parking: Easy to park with a huge parking lot and many options close to the doors.Kid-friendliness: Nisen is so kid and family friendly! One night when dining in, I saw so many kids and families enjoying themselves—having hibachi and ice cream and more. Even the staff talked to the kids, and the kids were so bright eyed and smiling!

Go on a week night early Place is deserted and you get to sit in a very cool booth. Had two amazing vegetable appetizers. Baby bok Choy. And eggplant. The sushi is ok. I never really taste what is in it. I only taste the ginger, wasabi and the soy sauce

They have been open for over 2 decades! Ordered delivery today for lunch. Fruit was fresh! Sushi was so good! Salmon had plenty of teriyaki sauce. Miso soup and salad with ginger dressing yummy and it was neatly packed. Did not like shumai wish it was fried or option of gyoza instead.
