Clean and well thought out rooms at The Alander. The check in process was all digital but the instructions were seemless and filled with pertinent details. Would recommend staying for a night or two.
Great hospitality from owner. Beautiful lounge with delicious breakfast pastries and coffee. Local yogurt and granola complimentary in room also excellent. Charming detail of room decor and comfortable bedding. Overall a wonderful stay. Looking forward to returning!
Perfect stay for skiing (15mins from Catamount). Very clean, spacious rooms, great service (responsive team) and they provided a list of local gems which was helpful.
We loved the place, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, a very romantic spot, with everything you need to have a wonderful time, the staff is very attentive and friendly, and the room was very cozy
Our car broke down on a Sunday on our way back from visiting relatives for the holidays. Our car was being towed and couldn't be fixed until the next day. Since the mechanic was in Copake, we were told about The Alander for accommodations for the night. I quickly made reservations on my phone from a gas station and luckily they had availability. I booked two rooms (we were a group of 5 adults) and made a dinner reservation at the North Star onsite hotel. We weren't sure what to expect and all of us were pleasantly surprised. First, the bar tender (Kimberly) at the restaurant was kind enough to let us sit there for a long time while we waited for our rooms to be ready and my husband to join us after being towed. She had previously recommended a driver who was able to get most of us there beforehand. After complimentary beverages and an early (unexpected) check in, we found our rooms to be adorable, nicely decorated, comfortable, clean and lots of food options, some complimentary, others available for a small charge. Dinner was amazingly delicious and included unique options and the atmosphere was SO cozy with the snow outside and warmth inside. The owners, Reid and Jason were there all throughout (both check in and at the restaurant) working hard to make sure everyone was enjoying their visit and dinner. They were more than accommodating to our family that was unexpectedly stranded in a unfamiliar town. We will never forget the kindness we encountered in Copake, from our driver, Andy, to Jim at Jim's Auto Body shop, to the entire staff at The Alander. THANK YOU for making what could have been a miserable experience the most pleasant surprise. We DEFINITELY recommend!
This property charged rates comparable to a mid-range hotel room in New York City, but it’s essentially a basic motel-style accommodation located in a very remote area with no amenities and services.
There is no lobby, no on-site staff available for immediate assistance if you need anything after check-in, no breakfast area or included amenities, and minimal security features in the rooms. The heater doesn’t work well. The parking lot was covered in frozen snow and ice, making it hazardous and difficult to navigate, especially in winter conditions.
Overall, the high price is a significant overcharge given the basic facilities, isolated location, and lack of services—definitely not worth the cost for what was provided. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re specifically looking for a no-frills stopover and can secure a much lower
Edit:
The owner’s latest reply is yet another attempt to market this basic motel as a premium, high-end property. This has been one of the most overpriced and underwhelming stays in my travel history. There are reviews mentioning that the room is unclean, which I agree with as well.
What a great little find. We were very happy with our stay. The room was well stocked. Every detail was thought of. The beds were super comfortable and the linen was top notch. Our room was big and warm. We were only going to stay one day but when we got there, it didn't take us long to book another night.
I absolutely loved my stay at The Alander. From the minute I arrived, the hotel felt warm, welcoming, and effortlessly comfortable. The way they renovated the rooms are the perfect balance of retro-chic style and modern comfort—think antler accents, cozy leather couches, crisp linens, and plush blankets that make you want to sink right in. The room was incredibly clean and had everything you could need. Having a fridge in the room was a huge plus, and the bathroom was beautifully designed.
The property itself is just as impressive. With sweeping mountain views and a large open field, it’s especially perfect if you’re traveling with a dog. The landscaping is thoughtfully done, with inviting outdoor spaces including a fire pit surrounded by chairs - ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring. The exterior lighting around the rooms was another standout detail, creating a cozy and well-designed atmosphere at night.
Another thing that sets The Alander apart is the hospitality. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming and you can see their care and attention in every detail. It’s the kind of place you don’t want to leave. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful area — can’t wait to return.

The Alander was even better than expected. The room was large, comfortable and very nicely decorated. There were lots of special touches and extras provided such as fresh ground coffee with a French press in room and a cozy lounge with pasties for breakfast. The location was convenient to us and the self checking was quick and easy. We will definitely stay there again and hope to try their restaurant next time which is getting great reviews.
We had an amazing time at the Alander!! The rooms are cozy, clean and comfortable. Everyone that works here is so helpful and sweet. The owners are great. Reid is the nicest guys ever! He helped us with recommendations, chatted with us when we were around the hotel and went out of his way to light up the fire pit for us so we could enjoy the stars and smores. Will definitely be back! Everything was great and their restaurant too!
Great spot. Second visit here. Restaurant is a nice addition.
