I was in East Meadow recently and craving halal food, so I decided to check out Shah’s Halal after seeing a wave of positive reviews online. The place itself is spacious and visually appealing—clean, well-lit, and inviting. I walked in expecting a smooth experience, especially since I was on a tight lunch break.

I ordered something simple: a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The woman at the counter asked what I wanted, but that was it—no follow-up, no offer to add fries or a drink, which I actually wanted. She called someone from the back to prepare my sandwich, but instead of getting started, he took the next customer’s order and began making that one first. I was told it would take 7 minutes. It ended up taking 15.

Eventually, the woman went to the back herself and made the sandwich. I didn’t mind who made it, but what bothered me was the lack of engagement. When she returned, she simply asked for payment—again, no offer to add anything else. I was too embarrassed to speak up at that point, so I paid and left with just the sandwich, even though I had planned to eat inside and enjoy a full meal.

The sandwich itself was fine, but the experience left a sour taste. I felt rushed, overlooked, and honestly, a bit invisible. The staff—both the man and woman—seemed disengaged, and while I don’t expect over-the-top hospitality, basic attentiveness goes a long way.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. But for a spot with such strong reviews, the service I received didn’t match the reputation. Hopefully, this was just an off day—but for now, I’ll be exploring other halal options in the area.

Angela the owner is a wonderful lady and the food was great. Very decent sized gyros for the price. Typically the lamb meat is cooked with onions mixed in but when I informed Angela that all three of my kids don’t like onions, she very happily and without hesitation grilled up fresh lamb by itself. I highly recommend this place not only for the great food but a chance to meet with Angela and her very friendly and bubbly personality!

Loved the gyro very tasty. The sauces were very good 👍. It was spicy, but to spicy to where the after taste burns 🔥 your mouth and stomach. The after taste created the atmosphere made me feel like I was 7yrs old again. 😆 I will be back and I will be a regular customer. Great place to eat. 👍 👌

The employees over here move extremely slow, they take multiple orders at once and confuse themselves, and just are very unorganized.

Large space, food wasn’t as the other Shah’s locations are. It was very bland and uncooked.

I would advise management to look into what’s going on here. Not how a usual Shah’s is ran.

One of the best place

Terrible experience. I always go here in evening but today I went in afternoon the staff is terrible . They(girl in hijab) put smaller portions than regular chicken in my food .

Used to be very good. Then they took away the sour cream, aside from that nowadays every morning after my stomach feels horrible. Not sure if they changed ingredients or what but no other halal food does that to me regularly. Overall, used to be good, now it’s wack.

The food here tastes great and has great flavor however never order online. I didn't believe it until It happened to me but I got ripped off and I'm pissed. I ordered a combo with extra lamb and extra white sauce and I got neither and the extra lamb was no small cost either. I also asked for a half pita chopped and got maybe 4 small pieces of pita. I've gone here a bunch of times before and have never been let down like this. Just be cautious.

I have been a repeat customer for years. I like that they offer custom dishes; you can choose what you would like to add to your salad/rice etc. The food is consistently fresh and their choice of sauces are delicious. Staff is always friendly and attentive. You won't be disappointed.
