I have known tom for several years. Hands down the friendliest man. Very hard working. Takes great care of his animals and a well kept operation. Its a family operation with great pride in what they do. They are the best of the best.

I haven’t visited the farm (although I’d love to because looks like my dream) but everything I’ve purchased from here from the local farmers market on Tompkins Square Park on the weekend is unbelievable .. truly! From steak to lamb to smoked ham for split pea soup… there is just a freshness and taste that you only get from quality meat. Their bone broths are amazing, really everything! So happy I stumbled upon them, I haven’t gone back to the grocery store for meat since.

While we never actually visited the farm, my husband and I did enjoy 5 course gourmet dinner deliveries from them every night of our stay at Harmony Hills Retreat Center down the road. Farm to table chef Denise Warren is amazing! My husband and I are from New York City, and we both felt that Desiree's cooking was top tier, and some of the best dinners we've ever had!

Great opportunity to see how much work actually goes into farming

Such a treat! The soups are what your mother would make, if she were a first rate chef. They offer a very generous variety, are extremely hearty, chock full of gorgeous ingredients and seasoned to perfection. Most notable is the fact that they don't make the same garden variety soups you can find anywhere, from cassoulet to white beans, kale and smoked ham, Stone Thistle Farm is a luxury for us all.

Tom and Denise gave us a great tour of the farm which was really informative. Kids and big kids had a great time.

Had to share on here also how great the brother and sister chef combo from France were last night at opening night. I would highly highly recommend going before they are done in the area. Great food. Great service. Amazing experience.

I hate giving this a bad review because I was really excited about going to a local farm. My visit was decently short. Yes, it is a little difficult to get to, GPS gets lost. Fine with me, just like getting to many other places in the area. As we pull up, we are greeted by dogs. Farm dogs- more like attack dogs. One comes running at me, I get back in the car before it could get to me. My boyfriend on the driver side was confused why I got back in the car but continues to try and find the store. Until he gets nudged by the barking dog and gets back in the car. So we pull out (dog still following and barking at our car) to try and actually find the 'store'. We pull around the other side and find the store, with a sign out front that reads, store open farm closed no wandering watch out for dogs (or something about their manic dogs). A young guy looks at us and continues to walk past our car... Doesn't say a word to us or come up and ask if we need help. Anyway, we drove away. With the dog still barking. We wanted to love this place. Sad we drove all the way there for nothing.

I found this charming place to be a perfect destination for 2 days of deep relaxation and connection with the land. Though the cabin lacked in certain amenities like hot water and indoor plumbing, the surroundings and quilted, rustic comfort of the cabin more than made up for it. I was especially impressed by the heartfelt care that went into both the preparation and serving of the Saturday night dinner by Denise, Shane and Tom. Possibly the best pork and flan (from raw milk and handpicked blue berries served over a bed of caramelized brown sugar) I've ever had!

We went on the farm tour this weekend. Stone & Thistle is a sustainable/organic farm, and I've read mentions about them over the past several years, so I was really looking forward to seeing their farm up close. The tour is geared to children, which is fine, but most of the adults were either uninterested in the information presented during the tour or bored by the somewhat simplistic topics. The tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable, and when I asked more specific questions, she was always willing to talk more in depth. Overall, I think the tour is still worth taking, but it's most appropriate for people with young children. The owner of the farm -I can't remember her name- could use some pointers on public relations, however. She started off the tour by lecturing everyone on the merits of sustainable farming, then complained about the FDA regulations concerning the labels "certified" organic and "grass fed" beef. She railed on about how the local creamery stopped working with her for several reasons, and how they are now planning to build their own creamery on the farm but haven't been able to raise the money, etc. I got the feeling she is one of those people who sees a conspiracy and roadblocks in everything. (Note: I am aware of the issues she was complaining about, and agree with her on most things, but I think that most people who come to her farm are already concerned about their food source and are aware of the political issues surrounding food production, but people don't like to feel lectured to) To top it off, after her speech I complimented her on a new addition to the farmhouse by saying that I was an architect and that I liked the modern yet sensitive addition. She launched into a 10 minute diatribe about how Architects are "not necessary" and how the one she hired screwed her over. I politely pointed out (again) that I was an architect, thinking that maybe she would stop insulting my profession to my face, and suggested that obviously she hired the wrong architect; but no, she didn't take the hint. I was literally aghast and didn't know what to say. I've rarely met someone as tone deaf to other people as she is. It's a shame because I would like to try the dinner or brunch at their new restaurant, but there's no way I would come back and deal with her again.
