I’m pretty sure I discovered this spot long before Anthony Bourdain did! 😏 It was featured in Parts Unknown Season 9, Episode 4 (Queens), where he dined here with chefs Josh Smookler and Cosme Aguilar. Geo Si Gi is highly known for their signature gamjatang (spicy pork bone soup).

Ordered the Gamjatang & Grilled Mackerel Set – $52.95 (for 2)

The gamjatang is perfectly spiced – bold and warming without overwhelming heat (and trust me, my spice tolerance is low!). Instead of the usual red kimchi, they load it with long strips of green napa cabbage, cut right before your eyes before serving. Some bean sprouts, watercress on top, with tender potatoes, chewy rice cakes, and massive pork bones that fall right off – so meaty and flavorful. Served with a side of sweet mustard sauce. Pure comfort on a cold day.

The grilled mackerel was enormous and incredibly plump – way bigger than expected! As an oily fish, it’s rich and satisfying, but we barely made it through a third. If you’re a mackerel fan like me, it’s a must-order.
.
Banchan were simple and homey: nothing flashy, just solid classics. Bonus: it comes with fluffy steamed egg (jjim) that rounds out the meal perfectly. I can eat an entire bowl of rice with just the steamed egg 😊
.
This set was massive for two – we left with about 1/4 of the soup and 2/3 of the fish! Pro tip: Save some broth and ask them to make fried rice with it at the end. Game-changer.
.
Highly recommend for hearty, soul-warming Korean food in Flushing!

If you’re looking for Korean comfort food in Flushing that opens early, Geo Si Gi is a great option — they open at 10:30 AM, which is rare around here. We came right when they opened and were the first table.

This place is best known for their Gamjatang (pork bone soup), so we had to try it. The soup was hearty and flavorful, and definitely good, but for us it wasn’t as “wow” as the hype made it sound. Still a solid bowl of soup and great for sharing.

One of the coolest parts is that when you’re almost done, the staff can make fried rice directly in the leftover soup/sauce. Honestly, the fried rice was even better than the soup — super satisfying and packed with flavor. Tip: save room for this part!

We also ordered a few other dishes:

Seafood pancake (Haemul Pajeon): good, but I’ve had better elsewhere

Spicy squid: the standout — perfectly cooked, not rubbery, and not overly spicy

Spicy pork trotters: another favorite, super flavorful and great with rice

We also took home the fried pork cutlet (tonkatsu). The portion was HUGE and it was surprisingly good — obviously not Japan-level tonkatsu, but still a very satisfying takeout order.

Lastly, shout out to the staff. Even with a bit of a language barrier, they were extremely kind and attentive. One server even helped put a bib on my dad so the soup wouldn’t splash, and they were nice enough to help us take a group photo.

Overall, great early hours, generous portions, and a couple of standout spicy dishes. I’d definitely come back.

Came all the way from DC with our church youth and by far the best service I have ever had at a Korean restaurant! Served us as if we were family visiting for the holidays 🥹. The broth had such a clean taste and the 개란짐 was so savory. Our group of 16 ate to their hearts content tonight. Thank you GeoSiGi Gamjatang staff and owners! 🫶🏾🫰🏾

Amazing service the owner was so kind and welcoming! Food was well portioned and very flavorful. We got the rice noodle, seafood pancake, tofu pot and bulgogi and eveything was perfect to a tee. Thank you guys!

Not a fan. The food is okay. The staff is argumentative, ruined the experience. I won't be back.

I ordered Gamjatang for takeout, its gentle taste is not like others (that strong flavor), felt comforting after meal, not heavy thirsty. Will definitely order other dishes soon!

Lunch with a friend after a long time.
A taste of another world that I have never tasted before. It tastes too much. Where did all the contents go???
I left it without even eating it, but they took all the money without even asking.
I will never go again.
I wonder if the owner has changed... It reminds me of the old taste. I absolutely do not recommend it.

Gamjatang for two with a friend!
I was deceived. The soup is Maengtang and Maengtang.
The contents are poor and there is nothing in particular to open. I think the owner changed to a Korean-Chinese person. I can't taste it! I really felt sorry for my friend who went with me. And I feel bad the whole time. I feel bad

I visited a few days ago and ate gamjatang, but the meat smelled and was dry. Never eat gamjatang. A year ago, I changed the gamjatang because it smelled really bad, but I lost money on taxi fares and I thought other people would suffer as well, so I'm posting this...

I submitted and ate sundae.
Expensive, tasteless, and terrible....
