Rainbow Bakery & Cafe is a hidden gem in Elmhurst, Queens, offering a wide selection of authentic Chinese baked goods and dim sum-inspired dishes. The bakery serves delicious treats like almond cookies, almond chocolate cookies, and tuna buns. Their menu also features rice noodle dishes, including the popular dried shrimp rice noodle, and a variety of hot lunch options like steamed buns and dumplings. The service is fast and attentive, with friendly staff. The bakery has a cozy atmosphere with seating for dine-in customers. Prices are affordable, making it a great spot for a quick breakfast or snack. They also offer refreshing drinks, such as the iced honey lemon beverage. The standout is the Portuguese Egg Tart, which is worth grabbing when taking the subway to or from Grand Ave. Customers praise the authentic taste, fresh ingredients, and great variety, with the shrimp rice rolls and butter cookies being particularly noteworthy. The owner, Johnny Lo, specifically chose to open the stores in areas with a high immigrant population to create a sense of community, making it a place that offers both delicious baked goods and a welcoming atmosphere.
