Hands down best dosa, idli, vada, chutney, upma, pongal, mysore pak, and madras coffee. You can do Abhishek in Ganesh temple upstairs on a full stomach. Very satisfying and may improve your karma! Just not on a weekend though when it's crazy packed.

While service staff are good, quality and taste of food has deteriorate. Sambar was more like watery Urad dal. Quantity is less, you need to spend extra money to get Dal.

Profound Profundity
The best authentic home-made South Indian snack food in the whole of NYC. Everything on the menu is cooked by traditional cooks, be it idli, vadas, dosais, uthapams or anything in the category. The sambar is the traditional thick sambar made at home, not the watery non-descript stuff in "hotels".Just A+ class. Oh BTW, the lines can be long!!Everything is recommended!!! As connected to the Hindu temple everything is strictly vegetarian.

It had been a while since I visited this place and I braved a monsoon and idiot drivers to get here. The dosas were on my mind. The place was clean, I placed my order and sat down, and was given my masala dosa. My first thought was shrinkflation is real. When I tasted it, I forgot all that. The dosa was fantastic and combined with the price, it is unbeatable anywhere in the city. For your South Indian food fix, this is the place to go. I am still convinced this is the best dosa and South Indian food in NYC. Anywhere else will have to bring their A game and be able to get over a high bar!Vegetarian options: This place is all vegetarianParking: Parking is hard here so plan accordingly

Apparently, NYC's best South Indian food is hidden in a Hindu temple basement in Flushing, Queens. Hindu Temple Canteen is one of the most famous vegetarian spots in Queens - this is where you can order a variety of authentic South Indian food, like uttapams and dosas. A dosa is a thin, savory, crispy crepe that's a very popular street food in India, traditionally eaten for breakfast - or anytime you want. For dosas, we ordered the ghee masala and paper masala. They're so thin, but surprisingly filling, especially paired with the potatoes and vegetable soup offered. Don't forget to get a mango lassi to cool down from the spice!Open daily, 8:30am to 9:00pmWhat we ordered:$8.50 onion chili uttapam$8.50 ghee masala$9 paper masala$3 mango lassi

Amazing dosas!!! Wide range of food options to choose from. Everything we tried was fabulous. Paneer Dosa was my favorite. Filter coffee was also really good! Most importantly very economical. Would definitely go there again.
