Me and my party of 3 just left sushi koi. I haven't been here in years. This is my complete honest review. The atmosphere is still what I remember after all these years, its a nice cozy warm place. Thats where the positives end. The food isn't terrible and is right at average, nothing more. Prices have increased as expected just like everything thing else in the world. However, the sneakiness to earn a dollar is quite appalling. We ordered 2 bento box dinners, we opted for fried rice instead of the included white rice. With no change in portion size the upcharge was $10 without mention. For a few $s more and a massive increase in portion size we could have had a fried rice entrée, instead of the 2 small sides. I usually like my food a little spicy, so I asked for a little Sriracha that was an additional up charge. The straw that broke the camels back is when I received my check and there was a mandatory gratuity fee I was not made aware of prior. When I questioned it, I was told I had no choice that's how they operate and I'm lucky I'm not being charged 18%. Wow! is the only word I had after hearing that. Times are tough for everyone. When you increase your prices to accommodate the economy and as a paying customer, I pay accordingly, what makes it ok for you to charge me a mandatory gratuity fee. From what I remember a TIP is a optional gesture of appreciation for service above and beyond. Not because I took a seat in a restaurant. So what I'm saying is, there are places with better food, better service and more appreciation for their customers. Go to one of those places.

Insanely good sushi, very cheap but excellent quality food, authentic decor and fast excellent service. For my vegans there’s so many options from sushi to dumplings. I got the inari roll which was unbelievable and only $5.75 and the miso soup was literally the best I have ever had. I was in a rush and everything came in 5 mins which was so nice. definitely a hidden gem in forest hills!!

This is a neighborhood staple. Love the atmosphere is very elevated and fits a traditional sushi restaurant.
Most importantly the food is so good and the service excellent. Highly recommend if you want some good sushi or bento box!

The food is great but the customer service is so bad it brings the rating down to a 1 star. The lady at the front is rude, delusional and downright stupid.

The worst restaurant I have ever been to.
My son and I went to this restaurant today. The server here had an extremely bad attitude. I think she might be the owner. We waited for half an hour but our food still hadn’t arrived. My son was very hungry. I told her nicely that my son was very hungry and asked if they could prepare the food quickly. Then, she came over aggressively and blamed me, saying that if I was in a hurry, I should have told her in advance.

At that time, only my son and I were in the restaurant—there were no other customers. She said they weren’t just serving me but also handling takeout orders. But shouldn’t she have informed me in advance, saying something like, ‘Sorry, we have a big takeout order to handle, so your food might be delayed’?

I’m not the owner of this restaurant—how would I know they were working on a large order? It was their failure to communicate, yet she blamed me to my face. On top of that, she kept cursing me in Fuzhounese from the back, not realizing that I am also Fuzhounese and understood everything she said.

If you want to run a business in Kew Gardens, you should first learn how to treat people properly.

An incredible restaurant with delicious food especially their famous fried ice cream, if you are around don’t hesitate!

Server was rude and not attentive. Food was bland and portions are incredibly small. Avoid this place! Never offered to remake anything and the server threw the check at us at the end because we said we wanted her to take back a dish we didn't enjoy. We also would've gladly paid any difference for the price of the item we got instead.

I've been coming here for years. It's a mom & pop place. Sometimes the service can be slow because it's just the 2 of them and maybe a delivery person. I have always enjoyed the food here. It's usually easy to get a table at night because most of their business is delivery.

We walked into an empty restaurant on a Friday night and that should’ve been our first clue as to what to expect. The sushi was bearable at best. The shrimp in the sushi was not deveined and the food was hard to finish. We bought some rolls that were served hot that should not have been hot.. the fish looks grey and weeks old. The server was cordial but service was very slow, and she was on the phone for the most part. The server added 15% tip to our bill without our knowledge (party of four..)…when she did the absolute bare minimum…Do not recommend this place whatsoever.
