Smelt horribly. Brunch that was advertised everywhere was not available. Bloody Mary's were terrible. Sangria was straight up red wine with fruit in it. Mussels tasted of sea water. Service was goof but quality of drinks and food were not up to par for the price they were charging at all.
The location is great- perfect water views but the food is consistently inconsistent. I've had great paella one week but then it tastes totally different (in a bad way) the next. My husband and I roll the dice with ordering, hoping that the good chefs are in the back. Come on Thursdays for the 2-for-1 baked clams and the live band- they're both fantastic. But be prepared to spend $100 pp, no matter what.
I don't even know where to start. We wasted $200 on frozen or old seafood. Lobsters were overcooked and rubbery. Oysters were not shocked correctly, and you could build a castle with all the sand. Service was ok but 20% automatic gratuity left even more sour taste on our way out. Lastly, there were flies. We were swatting the entire meal. You couldn't pay me to go back there.
I visited with two friends for lunch. Our waiter was great. I ordered Shrimp Cocktail for my appetizer. The shrimp was over cooked, & the cocktail sauce was bland. On the other hand my Surf & Turf was delicious. The drinks were delicious. Only one complaint, but it was rectified quite quickly. We were seated, and an unnecessarily loud group of women were seated right behind us. We asked to be moved. Our waiter was able to move us swiftly. I will return.
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The fact that this restaurant made me want to write a review should be a testimony not to come here.I went to River House Grille in a party of 2, opting for what we thought would be a fancier option on the nautical mile, but we were very disappointed. Starting off we had dirty tableware and a lipstick stained water glass which we had replaced. For food, we ordered oysters, pasta, the octopus, and two drinks. The oysters didn’t taste fresh and were tiny, the pasta was bland, and the portion of the octopus was a joke. We both also felt nauseous after drinking their cocktail and not in an intoxicated way, but in a “We feel sick,” kind of way.We decided to leave after that, but it seemed like their slow service wanted to keep us there even longer than we would have liked. The bill came with an absurd 20% gratuity already included (We never seen this happen when the party is under 4 people) for their terrible service on top of a 3.5% credit card charge. We decided to leave the nautical mile and head 10 mins east to Anchor Down in Merrick for much better food, service, drinks, and oysters.I’m never coming back to River House Grille and I hope that no one has to go through that unfortunate experience.
We had made online reservations but when we arrived we were told that they didn't have them. They were able to accommodate us. We had expected brunch as that was part of there menu but were told that they could only do lunch. They were out of several choices from the lunch menu. They added an automatic tip of 20% and told us it would be an additional 3.5% if we paid by card. Food was ok. Nothing special. We are not going back.
I made a reservation here for my birthday outing with a friend. We reserved an outdoor space for two. Upon our arrival, on time, we were told there was no outdoor seating. The hostess was curt and went to get a manager without us even asking for one. The manager came over and told us that they do not honor outdoor reservations because “He is a business man” and can't turn away business. What was he supposed to tell people the table is reserved? Yes, that is exactly how reservations work. We were also told that he “told the app not to allow reservations”. He never even apologized for the mix up. We left.
Sat out on the dock watching the boats go by. The service was quick and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. The bartender Ana made me her special delicious Malibu, pineapple and Moscato! Yum!! Will be going back many times!
Two of the three meals were incorrect. They brought out 1 meal and a side dish then we had to wait 10 minutes for the other two meals. Lobster Mac and cheese was not baked with bread crumb topping like it said on menu. Eggs Benedict was supposed to come with prosciutto but it had nothing. We asked about it and we're told the chef didn't have any so he left it off. No substitutions suggested. It was like they were hoping we didn't notice. Very disappointing meal and service
The food is absolutely disgusting. The crab cakes is nothing but bread crumbs filling. The “stuffed lobster” (which they charge $72 for), wasn’t even stuffed with anything. The rice was hard. The soup which sadly tasted better than anything else wasn’t even hot. They didn’t have any sides besides vegetables (no fries, mash potato, etc.). They charge $148 for 1.5lbs of “king crab legs” which they chop up into pieces?! The “garlic butter” didn’t even have any garlic in it! Their drinks are nothing but the mixer, even if you pay extra for top shelf liquor. One of my worst experiences eating out and I’m not a hard critic. Never again I tell you.

Honestly the worst meal I've had on nautical mile. Everything tasted like it came from a microwave. $147 dollars for king crab legs that has no taste. The butter was simply melted down with no seasoning Then they charged their surcharge separately which makes absolutely no sense. Save your time and go somewhere else.
The specials had no price on it when the bill came they charged $48 for 5 small scallops The oysters were sick looking extra small When the bill came $177 they added 20% tip and another $20 tip and another $13to the bill When I complained to the manager he told me that was a glitch sounded like everyday practice in the restaurant The restrooms are without any AC with a bad odor and a lots of flies No espresso or cappuccino Bad experience
Food is great, the people are very nice. We had the lobster and Mac n cheese and lobster rolls both were real good. The Cajun pasta as good. I had the surf n turf (steak and lobster) the steak was a little over cooked I wanted med rare I got medium but the lobster spinach and mashed potatoes were real good. Ambiance was relaxing. Watched a few people coming back n forth in their boats or jet skis. Def wouldn’t mind coming back here. Highly recommended
Unfortunately would never go back to the establishment. We were served by the manager who had a very off personality. Semi crazy.. The food wasn't all that good. The bill came and had gratuity already on it. I truly believe in giving well when the service is good. This manager deserved NOTHING. We left and went to another restaurant just for dessert and coffee. I hope this establishment reads these reviews and does better.
Horrendous. Couldn’t get a refill on water. Special prices provided by waiter were higher when the bill came. For 4 of us. 20% tip was added. No wonder the service was so horrible. And then they added a surcharge for using a credit card. The Linguine was not linguine. The white sauce was runny. Take a waterBottle with you. Or better yet, Otto’s where the service is excellent.
