I found this place 9 years ago for my 40th birthday this month. I was blown away on the food and service. I returned on May for my brother's birthday and still amazing. Then returned the following year and the food turned 180°. Was so disappointed, I asked the hostess what happened and she had said the owner had changed chiefs. I have never returned and reading these reviews doesn't look like it has gotten any better. So sad
Three of us went there. Very disappointed. I had the beef goulash, the meat was hard. All of our mash potatoes were chunky and hard. My daughter's meatloaf was so dry and hard. The apple strudel was okay. My daughter's chocolate cake had no flavor and was stale. The only good thing was the beer .Really went down hill from our last visit.
Rather disappointed with the new change in ownership. Called to make a reservation and specifically asked if the accordion player would be there. Was told “yes”, but arrived to find that he wouldn’t be there. Very disappointing because I took mom there on a night when the accordion player was supposed to be there. Also, new ownership has whittled down their menu... no more snail soup, for starters.
We came to the restaurant on a whim and saw the 4.1 Google review and took the gamble without reading the recent written reviews. Unfortunately we didn't get the entree until 9:15 when we had arrived at 7:15. We ended up eating about two bites and were pretty disheartened by the poor quality of the food. The server was very nice and went to get approval to take a little off from the bill since we barely ate but we ultimately paid full price. I've actually never sent back a dish at a restaurant or complained when it wasn't what I expected so it was hard to tell them that we were dissatisfied since we aren't picky eaters and don't want to make a fuss. They did offer to give us a free dessert but by then it was late and we thought it best to pass. I don't recommend this restaurant sadly.
Diarrhea and bad service.
I have been here several times however new ownership is not going to keep this place open long. Sat at the bar, it was a Friday night and not busy, bar pretty empty. Bartender turned out to be the owner. Terrible slow service even for water. Ordered bar food and the German potato salad arrived room temperature not warmed like it should be the bratwurst was boiled not grilled the saue5was from a jar. Nothing good to say except my date was fun company. Got up to leave and the chair fell apart. Sad. Previos owner and chef so much better. Doubt they will be in business much longer.
Love the live music, atmosphere, good bar menu and German beers on tap
By far the best, most Authentic German restaurant in the area. Sure, preparing food takes time so if you want fast food then go elsewhere but the food is excellent as well as the atmosphere. Authentic German Beer is sold in German liter glasses and my glass was never empty. Wunder bah!!!
The food wasn't terrible but you have to wait forever to get it. We waited over 2 and half hours for our food, and it took the waitress over 20 minutes to come over and even ask for our drink order. We strictly told our waitress that my mother was allergic to mushrooms and she brings out her dish and it is covered in mushrooms and all she said was that the gravy that they put over the potato (but was really was all over the food) had mushrooms and she'd only take back the potato and not the whole dish. Terrible.
Really quite good. Started with the MASSIVE pretzel, chicken liver pate, and their complimentary German potato salad and cole slaw. Meals were sauerbraten with braised cabbage and chicken schnitzel with sauerkraut, both with spätzle. Very good food all around (flavor, texture, moisture, temperature), but the sauerbraten stood out. Naturally, the beer was great, with the taps being all German...mostly Warsteiner with some Hofbräu-Mí¼nchen thrown in (happily, no American domestics...a good sign for such an ethnic eatery!). Ambience is perfect, with lots of dark wood and exposed beams...feels like it was lifted right out of Germany, especially since there was a good, live accorion performer playing polkas (among other things). Look forward to returning!
