I grew up in the Heights and around Dominican food, and honestly, this place is way overrated and not worth the travel. I don’t understand why people are so blown away or saying it’s so delicious — it really wasn’t.
The wait time for food was crazy — we waited over 30 minutes. The spot itself is small with limited seating, and while some staff were friendly, others weren’t as welcoming.
The food was the biggest disappointment. I’ve had much better tres golpes in Inwood and Washington Heights for way cheaper. The portion was skimpy — cold pickled onions, only one small fried egg, and about a cookie-scoop amount of mangú. The salami and cheese were the only decent parts, but definitely not worth $16.
The Cuban sandwich ($20) was another miss — no pickles or mustard, flavorless pork, unmelted cheese, and dry, overcooked yuca fries. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the coffee.
Overall, I was really disappointed with the taste, quality, portion size, and price. The pictures speak for themselves.

I went to this quaint little coffee shop. Not knowing how great coffee can be without sugar. I got oat milk that’s it. I ended up drinking it without any sugar and it was delicious. The pastries were delicious also. The atmosphere was nicely decorated, coffee bean bags, and Dominican paraphernalia. They also serve food and there’s a place to sit inside as well as outside. The owners were very friendly! I will return whenever I come back to Westchester County.

Unfortunately , i wish i could write a better review but i left slightly disappointed. i rarely want to put out negative experiences but this just wasn’t a satisfying visit. First, of course the coffee is delicious, my partner and I both got cortados and they were great. We ordered the tres golpes, truffle yuca fries, and the beef empanadas. The yuca fries seemed a little undercooked (we probably should’ve asked them to remake them but sometimes in the moment it’s hard to tell if something is off or if it’s maybe just how people make their item), no truffle flavour, and this is purely selfish but I wish they used a better quality parm. The tres golpes was fine, I wish the white in the egg was cooked more, and for $16 for a plate of its size I think it should be a little more than just fine. For the empanadas, they were probably the best part but for the price, I can go to a lot of places and enjoy just as good empanadas at a better price. Again, I don’t usually like to write reviews like this but it’s hard out here. $55 meal before tip to feel like theres something missing throughout it. Pace should be faster, it feels like the food lacks that extra thought and effort; I think I could see myself one day in the future coming back but at the moment is was fairly underwhelming.

I went with my sister and we were both blown away! As a Dominican and a picky coffee drinker, I couldn’t believe how smooth and delicious the coffee was—sourced straight from the Dominican Republic. We also had the bacon, egg & cheese and the tres golpes—both amazing! Great vibe, friendly service, and so proud to see our culture represented this beautifully. Highly recommend!

Charged 2$ extra to get the drink iced with half and half, so iced mocha ended up at almost 9$ when advertised at 6.25$. Was not made aware of this upcharge.

Best coffee I’ve ever had.
This is some of the best coffee I've ever had, and it's just a lovely bunch of folks serving it. Bonus points for always having something good on the turntable. An all-around great place.

I drove a hour to don Carvajal, Service unfortunately was not up to par. I brought my partner’s grandmother to enjoy an authentic Dominican coffee but unfortunately she said it tasted old. I ordered an ice coffee with hazelnut and I cannot say it was enjoyable I felt rushed as I was ordering I feel like the staff member could’ve suggested items since it was my first time. I ordered pancakes and they quite literally were not good were dry nothing special nothing “Dominican” about them. We also ordered a chicken empanada and those were good. Matcha latte nothing special. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d make the drive again.
