We stayed at a nearby and wanted a real hot breakfast not one prepared and set out for everyone. This was not even a block away. We arrived right after they opened at 8:30 am so they were not busy. We were greeted immediately and told to sit where we wanted. Our drink orders were promptly taken. I ordered a latte and it was delicious. For breakfast my husband created a ham & mushroom omelette and I had the Farmhouse breakfast with fried eggs and sausage. The sausage was different I could definitely taste the herbs used, it was good. The breakfast potatoes were cooked just the way I like with skins on and browned. If we return to Ithaca I would definitely return for breakfast but they serve lunch as well.
This is definitely not the Cafe DeWitt of old. Since reopening under new ownership, the menu is super scaled back and food is very 'meh'. You really shouldn't charge $15 for the tiniest sandwich imaginable, and not even bother to put so much as a handful of greens on the side. Also, we were confused by the slow service, since we were literally the only people ordering at the time. I am rooting for this place to do better because its always been such a great spot. They really need to take it up a notch or two if they hope to be anything like the old Cafe DeWitt, which I sorely miss. I am guessing by the empty tables around us, that we might be some of the last locals to get the memo about this place.
Tried based on local recommendation. Interesting location, and promising menu. Ordering for in-house dining took some time due to puzzling degree of disorganization among front desk team (was quiet time, few diners, seemingly ample staff standing around). Sat and waited. Despite few people in restaurant and ~slow take-away flow, still nothing even after 30 minutes for simple breakfast order (2 sandwiches, soup). Repeated tries to catch attention of waiter failed even with many waiters standing around at waiter station chatting w/each other. Finally got up and managed to capture attention of "elsewhere" wait staff--said they'd check. Sandwiches coincidentally arrived 1 minute later--presume order already prepared by kitchen, but no one on wait staff noticed? Needed a minor thing during meal, but again failed in repeated attempts to politely catch attention of waiter. Wait staff again either chatting socially with friends or congregated around wait station. Masked up, and went over to wait station...and still was ignored in polite "excuse me"--waiters there were glancing elsewhere. Bizarre. Finished the (good!) sandwiches, and got up to pay the bill. Was about to provide polite, constructive feedback to manager on duty when I learned that restaurant automatically adds 20% for bill for its "good service". Gave up on the feedback. Bottom line: wish the good sandwiches could be paired with baseline-level decent service (say, that of a standard diner?)
I was in town visiting my son and we were looking for a breakfast place and he said he wanted to try Cafe Dewitt. This is a place you would have to know about because you would never find it by chance. It's inside of a old school or something that has been converted to stores, shops and rental space. The restaurant is on the ground floor in kind of a open space. The menu is on the wall as you enter the ordering counter. We both ordered and found a table. About 15 minutes later our server brought out our food. Kind of expensive for what you get but they include the tip in the price. Overall the food was good, although the servings sizes were small, the service was good, but the paper plates and plastic silverware were not my favorite.
Prices good, location a bit odd in the middle of a multipurpose center. Food was reasonable. Good for a quick stop for breakfast.
This is located in some kind of indoor mall. The menu is on the wall and you order at the counter. Everything is being served in plastic (utensils, plates) because they can't find a dishwasher. You have to ask for a key to go to the bathroom. So that is all the odd stuff. The breakfast was above average (good rosemary potatoes, french toast, bacon, local jam) but there is a 20% service charge to pay employees a higher wage. I can understand that and was fine with it given the times we are in, but $16 for a standad but tasty breakfast won't be sustainable for a long period. My friend got french toast and a tiny plastic container of syrup. When he asked for more they said that would be 75 cents more. That was just ridiculous.
The staff are super nice...but the meals are over priced. They're using paper and plastic utensils to serve the meal....maybe because of Covid-19?
Great local breakfast and lunch place and located in the Dewitt Mall. A nice sized menu with quality ingredients. Dine in is available as is take out and delivery. The Mac and cheese is fantastic. One of the best I’ve had and that’s compared to my grandma’s recipe.
Generous portion Made with locally sourced ingredients This is my favourite brunch plate in Ithaca !
We visited on Sunday for a late breakfast, and all we have to say is amazingly delicious! We started with a coffee & a tea (both very good...they used our fav brand of bagged tea), and a bread basket. The basket was filling and contained a nice variety of bread & a scone. We had an omelette (egg white..which is available for all Omelettes) with spinach, ricotta, & shiitake served with potatoes. It was just an amazing flavor combo. We also had a daily special: lemon & strawberry soufflé pancakes. Light and tasty...very delicious. This place serves real maple syrup and that is a big plus for us. Definitely stop in at the Dewitt , visit some of the shops and enjoy your breakfast at the cafe.
