Himalayan Yak Restaurant

LOPSANG, the most unqualified manager! We were a group of 6 people with pre-reservation table on 12/25. The reservation was taken by Lopsang over the phone around 4 pm. During the reservation call I had asked him if Dhido was served at the restaurant to which he had consented. Dhido was our prime concern for the dinner because of which I had to confirm with him in advance. We arrived at the restaurant around 6 pm. We were seated by a server, and we placed orders for the starters. The food was served along with the drinks. I asked the server if there were any musical performances for the evening. The server went to ask her manager about the performance. The server returned to our table, and she informed us that the performance will begin around 8:30 pm. I checked my watch and it was 7 pm then. Suddenly Lopsang, the manager, shows up and rudely speaks to us that the performance will begin only after 8:30 pm and we have long time to wait until then. His attitude was clearly understandable that we must vacate the table asap and we were not allowed to stay until the performance time. While he approached our table, we were drinking beer and whisky, and the starters were just done. Our dinner was yet to be ordered. And this so-called manager, Lopsang, was showing his rude attitude with us. I told him that I was waiting for the server to take our orders for dinner. He rudely asked me what we wanted for dinner. I placed our dinner orders that included Dhido. He abruptly says that Dhido is not served. I reminded him that I had confirmed with him if Dhido is served or not. He had agreed to serve Dhido at the time of making the reservation. Now he rudely claims that he never mentioned about the Dhido, a BIG LIE! (Looks like he wanted to allure the customer to his restaurant, so he LIED to me when asked about Dhido.) He didn’t apologize but rather insisted that he never confirmed serving Dhido. His expression was so UNPROFESSIOANL and RUDE as if he was fighting with some strangers in the street. I have never seen a manager like this one! Lopsang has ZERO knowledge of customer service. Earlier there was a couple with a dog who were seated. I informed the manager that DOG is not allowed in the food establishment. (I have a video recording of the DOG being seated which is against the health code of the city law). This manager has no knowledge of the pets that could be seated or not in the food establishment. I WILL NEVER EVER COME TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!!

My friends from New York took me in this restaurant for dinner during my last visit and I found it great in terms of test of food and live music performance. Service was excellent and I feel value for money in New York. We were in the rush time so we wait a few more minutes to have our food served in the table but we did not feel as we all were enjoying music. Anyone visiting New York and looking for south asian food (Nepali / Indian) it can be your good choice like ours. Only thing you need to think is your parking though location of restaurant is in perfect location.

The ema datshi - so good! Also the Nepalese beer they have is so tasty!

“I usually enjoy coming here, but this visit was disappointing. I ordered a drink which was sweet for me because of mango puree when I mentioned it, the staff refused to replace it. It’s frustrating when customer feedback isn’t taken seriously, especially when you’re paying good money for the experience.”

From you enter the door you are greeted by friendly staff. Luckily for me, my party was here and easy to spot. A were a large group celebrating our friends birthday. The place isn't huge but it is a good size and was able to accommodate us.

There were many appetizers on the table that were very delish. A hit for me were the seasoned potatoes, Aloo Dum (dry). I ordered the Shogo Ngopa and decided to go with tingmo instead of the white rice. Trying something new! Also ordered a mango lassie.

Food came out fresh, warm and delicious. The tingmo reminded me to a steamed bun with out the filling but with layers. Everything was good. Everyone was friendly and kept our water glasses filled.

At 9pm there was live music which was a nice treat. They even sang happy birthday to our friend. Nice place and will definitely try again!

Everything we ordered was fire! Been hitting up Himalayan Yak since 2010, but this last visit? Straight up the best. Goat Bhutan? Next level. Beef and chicken momos? Yup, perfection. Wai Wai Sandeko? Crispy dreams. Chicken thali, chili mushroom, veg chowmein—basically, we went hard and loved every bite.

If you're reading this—just go and order all the things. Trust me, you won’t regret it 😎
