I was a regular customer of Okawa Japanese Restaurant in the past, since I run a nearby dental office for the past 20 years.
The ownership has changed a few months ago, and I had ordered twice before yesterday. I guess I am easy when accepting food that’s not prepare the same way as before. But my wife refused to eat the food (she got bento box with salmon teriyaki, I got bento box with chicken). Obviously it tasted and was prepared very differently. I picked the wrong date to make this mistake (yesterday was my wife’s 51st birthday. I had to spend extra money and efforts to make my wife happy afterward.)
Let all customers beware, Okawa now prepare and make food differently, it may be acceptable to many, just not us anymore. Unfortunately, we will most likely won’t return as customer in the future.

Okawa catered our office lunch for 60 people. They were so flexible and amazing and communicative. Amazing prices, and the food was delicious!! Everyone loved it so much. Thank you so much Okawa!!

Atmosphere is very intimate. I was able to speak to the owners. They were exceptionally pleasant, shared the history of their recipes with me and were very attentive.I am planning to take a friend for dinner.

This is one of the best Asian cuisine restaurant I went to so far and my favorite was the met roll sushi, godzilla roll n their Nepali thali set was awesome ?the staff’s were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable so will surely visit again:)
The restaurant is under new ownership. This is one of the worst sushi experiences I have ever had in New York. We ordered many dishes and not a single one of them was appetizing. The food tastes like it’s days old and prepackaged. Overpriced for how bad the food is. Stay FAR away.UPDATE: the owner replied below with RACISM to my criticism. I wear the hijab so they ASSUMED my food choices based on that. We were nothing but polite and only sent a miso soup back because it was inedible. We left a decent tip and didn’t complain about ANYTHING ELSE. The prices would’ve been fine if we enjoyed a single bite of the food, but spending a single dollar was a waste. I’m complaining about the TASTE not the PRICES. I would be willing to spend so much more if the food was any good at all. I never leave reviews either, so that’s how you know it’s bad. And racism doesn’t go very far when you are trying to keep or gain a customer.

I live in 71st street and always wanted to try sushi in this new restaurant. I am really satisfied with the rolls I tried. One of the FRESH and best sushi I have ever tried. I ate salmon avacado, tuna avacado and avacado and cucumber roll. The servers are very polite and respectful❤️I will surely visit again and again and I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Giving even one star to this restaurant would be considered a disgrace.I came here and ordered several dishes, and was unfortunately disappointed with each one that came out.I often freuqented this location before the new management took over, so I was expecting quality food. I was very wrong. The food was nothing like I've ever had, it was terrible. First of all, when the food came out, it looked like it was days old sushi from a supermarket. The presentation of the food was also horrible, which is very surprising for a so-called semi fine dining restaurant. The salmon avocado roll was made with cooked salmon instead of raw, which is the first time I've seen that, and the avocado was browning. The spicy crab roll was so drenched with spicy mayo that it left stains of spicy mayo on the plate. I also ordered the dynamite roll off of the special rolls menu and expected it to be presented well. However, it looked as unappetizing as the rest of the food, and I was disappointed once again.Needless to say I will not be repaying this restaurant another visit, and hope that they improve their service and food quality.

Delicious meal! Super cozy, friendly and relaxed. So fun to have such an array of cuisines in one menu. A perfect capsule of beautiful Jackson Heights. ✨✨
The new and improved menu did not disappoint. Sushi was fresh and passed my expectations, beautiful presentation was a plus. Servers were very polite and made sure you felt comfortable. Their “Chicken butter masala” was packed with flavor and a decent portion.
