This past Sunday, 12/10/23, my husband and I, after church and driving for almost one hour in the rain, waited in line for 25-30 minutes to be served. We were skipped over as if we were not even there, not once but 6 people behind us were served while we still waited patiently. It was lunch time and we were very hungry, especially being diabetic it was of some urgency to get something to eat before driving for that long again. A young woman asked if we were supposed to be next. We said yes, she then proceeded to walk away, we waited another few minutes thinking she was going to come back to take our order, she did not. So we asked the other male server if we can place our order with him, he said “give me a minute”. He then proceded to take the next 3 people’s order that were behind us and ignored us. We waited again for another 5 minutes, to our amazement we were passed over a few more times and people who came in after us ordered and received their orders and left while we still waited…. We did not want to cause a scene so we left, walked in the rain for a block since there was no parking near by…. We discussed the matter and came to the conclusion that if we were black, maybe just maybe then we would have been served since everyone else that was online was black and we are not. Needless to say, I doubt we will be going back there and if anyone asks us about this venue, we will share our experience with them. But as Business Owners ourselves, we know how not to treat our Patrons and would not allow something like this to happen in our business. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, especially being this establishment is supposed to be Honoring Christ, I say this because they have a Bible scripture written on a “white board” on the wall in front of the cashier. I would suggest the Owner have a talk with the Staff about how important good customer service is and how detrimental bad customer service can be. Someone could easily report such an issue to the BBB or to the DOB to have a Health Inspector consider making a visit to this establishment. But I must say, everything happens for a reason, I believe that God allowed this in order to keep us from possibly getting sick from the food this time.

The Rib Shack in Jamaica, NY is a very popular, decades young landmark restaurant in this residential Queens NY neighborhood. Generations have grown up eating their delicious soul food. The food is prepared fresh daily and ready for take-out. The variety of tasty meats, vegetarian, seafood dishes and deserts are just what the doctor ordered. The staff are patient and friendly. Enjoy!

The food has changed not for the better I use to eat here with my parents when I was younger they new the owner like most older people in the area did the food was great now not so much the peach cobbler was so bland like they forgot to put sugar in it that was the worst peach cobbler I’ve ever had in my life omg the fish smells so bad it deterred me from eating it, is this stuff fresh or even washed? I never smelled cooked fish that smells worse than a fish market and it was only one order, they need to do better whoever is cooking this stuff it’s not it my mans the Bbq chicken noooo flavor like they baked unseasoned chicken and put some sauce on it no pride in the way this is made the worst meal ever when y’all use to be the best very disappointing and disgusting won’t waste my money here anymore.

Since this restaurant changed ownership the food is now so so & the service sucks. Also, why would you have a sign in the window that states put your mask on when entering the restaurant but they are serving customers in the restaurant without masks. Also, the server and male (dreadlocks) cashier were wearing their masks under their chin. I asked the male server to put his mask on properly while serving me & my friend, but instead he sucked his teeth and moved on to the next customer. How are we as a society supposed to get rid of Covid if you have nasty people like this out there ignoring protocol. I will never purchase food from this nasty establishment again. I will also advise my friends & family to steer clear of Rib Shack restaurant because they letting people without mask too.

Remember years ago maybe 15-20 years ago when Rib Shack was known for it's Southern home style cooking. Well not anymore. Its like an elephant in the room and not being addressed. Well its time to be exposed. The food is basically tasteless and not a stitch of southern flare whatsoever. As a southerner, I figured I wanted to see how it differed from back in the day when Poor Freddie original staff and crew and owner were there. What a difference. Yuck. The collard greens were watery and more stems than the collard green itself. Boxed macaroni, canned sweet potatoes etc. Truly a disappointment or a disservice to Southern cuisine. However, the public just sees it as Fast food with different items but the reality it it is no longer SOUTHERN CUISINE. Do yourselves a favor and get some southern cooks for Gods sake. Nothing against all of the caribbean cooks and servers. Just saying that it wont hurt to add some type of southern flair or ham hock or two to make a difference in the non tasting food being served. No worries. I wont be returning. Just figured it was finally time for it to be addressed that this is no longer the southern restaurant put on the south jamaica map 20plus years ago but just a basic fast food take out restaurant with non tasting food ripping off the community. How I wish the Poor Freddie Family still existed to help this food menu to show them what southern food really taste like because it is definitely not the slop they are serving.
