Grapevine Café offers all-vegan soups and several clearly marked vegan or vegetarian dishes, including two vegan sandwiches with well-prepared tempeh. My host ordered the Tempeh Reuben, I ordered the TLT (Tempeh, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich). The tempeh is roasted in the Reuben and sautéed in the TLT. Both are served on white breads, so unfortunately no whole grain bread matches the wholesomeness of the tempeh. Nevertheless, vegans mindful of nutrition will find more worth eating here than at all-vegan Parlor City, which serves mostly fried foods, mock meats, and fried mock meats. (Keeping the Rant in restauRant, I reviewed PC here on Happy Cow two years ago on October 17, 2021.) Grapevine serves booze, hence its name, and occupies a former seedy bar designed as a typical long and narrow American bar & grill. Walk past its entryway and you'll find the interior dark and dank, so by all means sit at the two tables by the windows. Also typical of a seedy bar & grill, the kitchen is right behind the sit-down bar, so shares the same room as the dining area. When meat grills in this poorly ventilated café, vegheads will gag on the charnel stench of burning flesh. When we began to smell the smoke, my host and I fortunately had finished eating our meal. So when we began to even see the smoke, we fled outdoors. A breath of fresh air was to be found even on this rundown end of JC's Main Street that converges with the seedy end of Binghamton's Main Street. Forced to choose between Grapevine Café's monster Scylla or Parlor City's whirlpool Charybdis, I instead would opt for Basha's Lebanese Grill.

My wife and I joined some family and friends before seeing some sights in downtown Binghamton. It is definitely an unusual menu. It isn't your normal menu but more of a cafe type menu. Often the name of a place is a little misleading but in this case it is definitely cafe style. You won't find your traditional diner foods. I ended up having the chicken salad on a croissant and I would say it was very good. My wife had the ham and swiss sandwich which also had apples. Hers was good. They also made a flavored drink that my wife requested even though it wasn't on the menu. Overall the food was good, reasonably priced and the staff was very helpful. Definitely going back.

They have vegan items marked on the menu as well as gluten free. And plenty of VGF options. The gf bun is vegan and amazing! Had the jackfruit pulled pork sandwich and really enjoyed it and the kale slaw was wicked delicious. They even had a VGF dessert the day I went. They always have vegan desserts. It was a vanilla sandwich cookie and it was so good! Highly recommend!

Stopped here on the way home. Great place for different palates. Meat and vegan options. We had the bbq tofu for starter, and kale salad with bbq jackfruit. Both were delicious. Waitress was friendly and attentive, even though the place was super busy.

Such an awesome little hole in the wall. The staff were amazingly nice, and the menu was fantastic. I really enjoy their big selection of GF, Vegetarian, and Vegan options, it's a rare find around here. Their smoothies are amazing too! Definitely check this place out if you're in JC!

Kale salad was great. Nice to have sides beyond fried. Just wish they had some solid vegan cheese . Really wanted that Reuben. Updated from previous review on 2023-05-21
