My partner and I have been to the Aviary many times and we are always excited at the prospect of going again. Last night we had an absolutely lovely day-after-Valentine’s dinner there. Cocktails, appetizers, mains, all fabulous. At first I was disappointed that the fantastic steelhead trout I had there recently wasn’t on the menu, but the short ribs were a terrific alternative. Nick serves a wonderful cocktail and, at this point, he even knows what we like. We enjoyed being in the nest and appreciated that the staff agreed to seat us side-by-side so we both had a view of that beautiful room. Service was excellent, as we have come to expect. No photos, b/c I left my phone at home so as to just be there. Thanks, all.

I can't say enough good things about the food. The sweet and spicy chicken dinner for two is a perfect split. A good balance of protein, veggies and rice. A true delight.

Yet another example of an outsider coming to a lovely place and trying to change it into the place they came from. Wildly overpriced and of average quality at best. The aviary excludes the vast majority of locals who couldn’t afford to eat here if they wanted to. Fortunately they don’t because they have common sense. You are the Lenny from Of Mice and Men to Columbia county’s mouse. Put it down and let it be what it is. That’s what drew you here in the first place.

Lovely venue - its a lofty open space with hard floors so it does get noisy easily- service was attentive - food portions were very small and most courses were flavourless and lacked originality -eg one course was a bowl of tasteless tomatoes with tough skins- the pork was tough and tasteless - i have been to a few of these farm to table type restaurants and there is a tendency to produce plain food so the flavour of the ingredients shines through but on this particular occasion there was just no flavour sadly - came away disappointed and hungry!

My husband and I are big fans of the Aviary—the food is always innovative & fresh, the ambience has only become more cozy over time and the staff are just lovely—especially our favourite bartender Nick, who makes the perfect martini, old fashioned or whatever suits your fancy. Love & recommend!

A fun way to spend a Saturday night. Delicious food and fun cocktails/mocktails. The trout dinner was amazing. Gf options were available for those who need it. The ambiance was pleasant and service was attentive.

Dinner for a large party. The reservation for the private room was not honored. Our host had to fight to get an acknowledgment from management that they did something wrong by not honoring the reservation for the private room . The table given us was not set for the proper number. The food served family style was ordinary at best. The plating was sloppy. The seasoning was unusual. The chef seemed to like cardamom and awful lot. The. restaurant was extremely noisy. I would not go back and do not recommend.

The staff were excellent as were the cocktails and the apps. The room was uncomfortably warm, however. We were told the issue would be fixed by September. Cold comfort. When we ordered the chicken entrée we were told it would be served with a foot on the plate. We asked that that not be the case. When the entrée arrived, it did in fact have a foot on it and was whisked back to the kitchen for removal. In retrospect, I can see why they add the foot: it adds some visual heft to what might be the smallest portion of chicken I've ever received in a restaurant… No more than five or six very thin grilled pieces that, while delicious, were in no way substantial enough to be considered an entrée sized portion for an adult. We might have been advised to order a rice supplement, but we were not. Definitely a mixed bag.

Amazing food--light, elegant and full of flavor. The negroni was on point and the service was top-notch. Can't wait to return!

Super stylish and elegant SoHo-worthy dining room in tiny Kinderhook, NY. Sort of Asian fusion cooking, very fresh vegetables and imaginative small plates to share. Cauliflower was a favorite, Jasmine rice too. Can get noisy as the night wears on!
