My partner Justin and I went to Eng's as part of our Severance-filming-location trip. We actually got there way too early and stuck around the area, checking out little shops for hours before they opened and we are SO GLAD we did. We got there right when the dining room opened and were geeking out the whole time about the place - the lighting, the art that was left up in the scene in Severance, the awesome owner and waiter. It was all great. The mai tai was amazing as was...
Very old-school. A carafe of tea dropped on the table without us asking, very kind and generous. Wonderful wait staff.
Unfortunately, that vintage style includes the menu. Very heavy on the sodium and starch in all the sauces. Fried rice doused in soy sauce to give it a dark color instead of using aromatics and letting it crisp up in the pan. Limited variation in the vegetarian section.

Been going here for 35 years and so happy that they've reopened.
I've had BBQ'd spareribs all over the country and have yet to find
better than Engs..Staples like egg rolls, fried rice, egg foo yung, and most meat entrees are spot on. Wonderful family business, and a must for Kingston visitors.
