What a cool historic gem! They have a really lovely menu. My gaiter was the apple cobbler! I was there in a very cold day and the fireplace created a lot of ambience and perfect warm temps, but not too warm.
Hoffman House is a wonderful restaurant with an old-fashioned tavern feel. Highly recommend—the food and service are awesome!
First time visit here. A very enjoyable time! The food was not only delicious, the portions were quite large. My wife, like many other patrons, went home with containers of food that she couldn't finish, that made for another delicious meal the next day. Although we live in the Philadelphia area, since we travel to New England often, we'll definitely be back. The entire staff, from the greeter, to our waitress, to the bartender (perhaps also the owner?), everyone was friendly, professional, and efficient. We arrived with high expectations, and they were exceeded! That's always nice!
We went back to the Hoffman House, because it is a cozy historical building - especially nice to go toon a cold winter nights. On Open Table we requested a table in front of the fireplace. this request was not honored. Although we reserved over a week ahead of time and confirmed the reservation by email and text ( confirmed by Open Table ) the restaurant did not have us on their list . Eventually they told us several servers don't remember to put the Open table reservations on their list of people reserved that night. We waited by the busy bar until they found us a table. Once that was settled the majority of the time we had great service . Our waiter was new and just learning, so a different bottle of the same kind of wine was brought to our table by mistake , but this wine was fine with us and less expensive than what we chose. Warm bread was brought to the table promptly which we appreciated. A salad is included which we also appreciated. The main entrees were delicious - well prepared. The 1/2 duck was very good and we were pleasantly surprised by the fresh seafood platter. We also had a delicious ice cream dessert. The prices are very reasonable.
Overall, we had a lovely experience at Hoffman House, and we'll go again. The food was very good, and prices were very reasonable compared with other restaurants in the area selling food of comparable quality. The only thing was that the service was slow--we sat about 45 minutes before getting our salad and then appetizers. This was NOT the fault of the server--she was great. Then, as soon as we had finished eating, and I mean putting our forks down, someone appeared and asked if we'd like to box up the rest. In other words, they really wanted to turn the table. An offer of dessert came after that.
Delicious food in such a charming environment!!! I can't wait to return with more friends!!
Wonderful restaurant! We have been going there for years and the service and food have never changed - always great.
Our reservation was at 5:15. We didn't leave until after 7:30. We arrived on time and everything was fine until we finished our salads. Our entrees took over an hour to get to us. During that time, our server apologized twice, but no manager came. Tables around us - some seated after us - had their appetizers, entrees and dessert while we were waiting. When our food finally came, no one apologized for the wait. No one offered us a discount, free dessert or even free soda refills to apologize for the wait. When it was time for the bill, a woman (not our server) dropped it on the table rudely, as if it was our fault we'd been at the table for so long. I've never had an experience like this; I can't believe the manager never came to at least apologize to us. So, while the food was delicious (at least the entrees and appetizers were, we didn't have the time to try dessert) and we liked the space, I can't recommend this restaurant. '
Hairs in the menu sleeve Fisherman's platter overcooked shrimps were inedible like rocks Salmon overwell done Clams in clams casino size of 1/2 pinky nail Scallops size of a quarter (2 of them) were ok Service paid sparse attention Never again
Such a lovely evening! Food was amazing, server was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, with spot on recommendations! Try the House dressing and thank me later!

We traveled to Kingston for the first time and had a very good lunch at the Hoffman House. We felt the prices were very reasonable and the quality of the food was good. The building itself is historic.
Loved it! Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, delicious food.
The other half and I stopped in after running an errand in Kingston. The food was pretty good for lunch fair, service was a little on the slow side. The drinks were standard. But the ambiance was fantastic. The decor and feel of a 1600's inn was pretty cool. I would definitely go back and try another meal there.
