Been going here for 20 plus years, haven't been to in a few years (last time I went the prices sky rocketed and the cheese dream shrunk). Anyway What the hell happened to this place? Went in on a Friday at 5pm and it was empty. We got seated at a dirty sticky table. Still a ghost town. Looked down at the menu and saw that the burgers are now $19.95 each. Waited for a server to come over, never happened so we literally snuck out. What a gross dusty restaurant that belongs on "Kitchen Nightmares", shame it went down hill.
Growing up in Centereach. Good steel was the place to be. My parents bought a house here in the early 60s. Good food good service was always plentiful at the Good Steer. Boy have you had changed. And not for the good. Very few people in this restaurant at 6 p.m.. staff was so so. One person could not stop talking he talks and he talked and he talked. After sitting there listening to him talk for at least 20 minutes. I got tired and I had to leave. Ask for a box to take my meal home with me. Even that was a problem had to ask several times to get one. Will not be back.
First off, I would like to say that I ordered from the restaurant online. And when my order got delivered through Door Dash, half my order was missing.I called the restaurant very upset, Bob the boss got on the phone and after speaking to him. He got in his car and personally delivered my missing items, plus a few extras for my troubles. The extra's were not necessary, but greatly appreciated. Bob went above and beyond.I have not eaten from The Good Steer in years, but recently got transferred back to the area. It was as good as I remembered fromyears ago.I highly recommend the Good Steer, if your looking for a great Burger, look no further.
Place used to be good they are slacking $13.00 burger deluxe lol no cheese no lettuce no tomatoes. Just burger and pickles what a joke. My wife gets a $10.00 cheese quessidilla no fries nothing ripped off other places are way better priced and better food. Used to love them no more! Thanks for your response you should change your pictures to what you actually get. Why only respond to mine? There are tons of 1 * reviews you say nothing too. By the way most places" give " you lettuce, tomato, and cheese on a deluxe burger lol. Burger was a Hockey puck. We order out from alot of places. I know staying current isnt your thing. As many have reviewed. Now I know and no worries we won't be back!
Ehh 3 stars... I modified this review down to 2 stars. The more I think about it; 3 stars Should be reserved for "meets expectations". No way in hell does this meet expectations! What the hell happened to this place? Prices skyrocketed. No more Good Steer steak sauce. The ceiling is falling down. They lack enough staff. It's a ghost town. I'm being generous with 2 stars. It earned an extra star because of the nostalgia I have for this place.
First off from the outside this place looks abandoned, it looks like it is ready to fall down. The inside is worse the ceiling is falling downwith fiberglass insulation hanging down whileyour eating. The worse is the ceiling lookslike the old asbestos tiles from the 50,s inpoor shape. This place does not look like it has been remodeled ever and they opened in the50,s. They did not even have straws, I mean it wasscary in there. It needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. FYI they still have not taken down theChristmas decorations REALLY it is the end of March.
Great service and great food. I had the 20 oz Prime Rib with fries and onion rings. I don't normally eat onion rings but, these were delicious. The 20 oz. Prime Rib was huge and cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and went above and beyond. The bathrooms were very clean. They have a huge free parking lot. I recommend stopping here for a bite to eat. When I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop here. Covid-19 rules are in effect, mask to enter and removed once you are at your table.
Good food wonderful service so much charm we love it here
We love the cheese dream! When we come back to Long Island; we love to visit. My husband loves the onion rings and the fried chicken. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid and now I bring my kids.
Famous for their delicious burgers and the onion rings !! My wife and I had our first date there and go back as much as we can !!

Wow! Super yummy. We wanted BBQ and that’s exactly what we got! Everything was fantastic. The atmosphere is adorable. Ribs were fall of the bone amazing, wings were great. Both sandwiches we ordered packed with flavor and very filling. Even the sauces were on point I love a good blue cheese and sweet potatoe fry sauce. We will be back again highly recommend!!Side note: I’ll never understand people that one star a restaurant. If you don’t like the food go elsewhere instead of bashing a family owned business.
My sandwich came out with soggy bread. The roast beef was thick and tough. The chicken & ribs appetizer was undercooked. The lobster bisque was bland and tangy. The apple pie dessert was too tart. The decor was dusty, old and they had bizarre mechanical elfs above my table. The waitress was passive aggressive. Do I want that drama for $140? Nah. Done.
Great Service , good food.
Wow what a disappointment. My husband and I go to good steer once in awhile just for the dream cheese burger. NOT THE SAME! The cheese is not the same. It’s definitely cheap cheese and a different color. Not worth $18 anymore. Get the original cheese back!
The burgers are amazing,The staff is very polite.
