Food was delicious in this moody, quietly set restaurant. Nice place for a date. The service was very slow, but likely an error on kitchen or our waitress as she said our ticket got missed after they put in several table orders at once. Thankfully, we did not mind as we were in no rush.We got the brussel sprouts to share, swordfish, and bolognese, then finished with the apple crostata. Everything was incredible.

This place is special. It is hard to beat the combination of top-notch cuisine and hygge atmosphere. The staff members are all professional and personable

We were in from out of town celebrating my husband's 36 year military career. This restaurant was recommended and it did not disappoint! From The home made bread with topping, to the Carmelo salad. The Swordfish was amazing and I'm a cod lover. The Ochiette in bolognese was absolutely delicious!Portions were smaller than I'm used to but not from a finer restaurant that packs such a punch! Highly Highly recommend!

Came highly recommended by many locals but I found the food just OK. The prices were similar to New York City prices. Seemed overpriced for what you get. The food wasn't spectacular. I think they benefit from lack of competition. Presentation of dishes were nice.

I made reservations here on a Saturday night before a show at the Art Park. I had never been to Lewiston previously and what a lovely place it is. The main street, Called Center Street is full of shops and restaurants some with rooftop seating. The area was bustling at 5:30 on a Saturday. I came to Carmelo's based on yelp recommendations, which have not steered me wrong. We arrived shortly before our reservation time and we were promptly seated. The restaurant was not too crowded, but it took quite a while for our server to come over and take a drink orders. The staff seemed rather busy so I had to assume that they weren't fully staffed. Even the hostess was delivering food. We ordered Caesar salads and for mains had the steak and pork chop large plates. To start, we were given a basket of bread with a pickled mixture, also sold at the restaurant, containing vegetables and olives. This was a nice change from the usual bread and butter. The Caesar salad's were generous and had an interesting twist; instead of croutons, the Romain leaves were sprinkled with what appeared to be crouton fine crumbs. This made the dressing a little bit on the dry side. My pork chop platter was spectacular. The chop was large and it sat on a very large bed of spinach and peaches. I forced myself to finish it. My husband steak platter was perfectly cooked and contained cheesy polenta and a peach reduction. He ate every bit. We had no room for anything but espressos. The ambience is medieval and, judging from the carpets, it doesn't look like the restaurant has been updated in quite some time. The service was very slow and we had to stop our waitress who was running around to plead for a check. I would definitely return when we didn't have a show to go to so we could enjoy this leisurely dinner.

Food was good, not outstanding. Zucchini salad was the best dish we had. The linguini with scallops and rock shrimp was decent, the scallops being the best part of the dish but the rock shrimp were probably frozen. Our server was very nice and it started out great but toward the end of our meal we had to wait 25 mins to order espresso and ask for the check. She was very apologetic but it's still a bit frustrating when she's at the table directly behind you twice during that time and doesn't look our way to check in. Overall, a good meal and vibe but nothing to write home about.

prices are relatively high, the portion sizes small, and salads were an extra $16.00. The food tasted good and the servers were pleasant but management was non-existent. By keeping the patio door open flies of all types enjoyed my dining room too.

You know things are bad when your husband tells you -- before you've even gotten your food -- to leave a review telling people how bad the place is.We last ate here a few years ago...I think it was pre-pandemic. The service then was really poor considering it's supposed to be a high-end place. We decided to give them another chance and made reservations for tonight (June 24th 2023).We arrived on time and were greated and seated as soon as we came in.The table we were given was right around the corner from the greeter's station, close to the bar, and with a clear view of most of the restaurant. A young man came to our table within a few minutes and offered us sparkling water or tap. We were fine with tap and he brought us a bottle of cold water and filled our glasses. It was much appreciated since it was a really warm evening and we had walked several blocks from our house in the village. We waited several minutes and no server came to take a cocktail order or tell us if there were specials. Unfortunately neither of us had brought our phones so I can't say how long it was we waited but it was certainly several minutes. It was too long. From where I was seated I could see servers sorting silverware....bringing sodas to the bar from the back of the house area....chatting with each other.....Finally the husband says "how long are we going to give them?"We decided they would get 5 more minutes and then we were leaving. Before then, he stopped a server and said "excuse me, can we get some service?"That's when a server came. She apologized and asked if she could bring us anything other than water.I said "no, but you can tell us if there are any specials; otherwise we're ready to order."No specials (which was completely fine) so we ordered. Hubs ordered an appetizer (the meatball) and the filet. I ordered the Carmelo (which is a salad) and the vegetable lasagna. The lasagna was listed on the menu as "VEGETABLE LASAGNA eggplant, zucchini, asparagus, ricotta, bechamel".The server came back in a couple of minutes and admitted that she didn't remember what we ordered "because" she admitted "I didn't write it down."She apologized but of course by now we're pretty well irritated and are worried about what might come out from the kitchen. The appetizers came out pretty quickly. The hubs said his meatball was very good. My salad was ok. A little too much dressing but I forgot to ask for it on the side. The main dishes came out relatively quickly after the the appetizer plates were cleared. Ordering steak -- especially filet -- is always a little dicey. The hubs likes his steak cooked through but of course if you order it well done you're going to get shoe leather. So he ordered it medium. It came out a little under done for his preference but we never send food back...and of course by now he's starving....so he sucked it up. He said it was pretty good. Now remember, the vegetable lasagna was listed as having "eggplant, zucchini, asparagus, ricotta, bechamel."First I couldn't cut it. That's right. I couldn't cut the lasagna....with a steak knife. It was completely overcooked on the bottom. There appeared to be a very thin slice of eggplant (I'm guessing) inside but that was it. No zucchini. No asparagus. I guess there was ricotta. I ate it because by this time I was starving and as I said, we don't send food back to the kitchen. It's just a personal philosophy. We're not complainers by nature and by this point we just wanted to get out of there. While we were eating, a couple came in and was seated near us. So close that I could overhear some of what they were saying to each other. Oh dear Lord, she mentioned the vegetable lasagna. So I'm sitting there, trying to saw through this tasteless mess wondering if I should warn them somehow not to order it. The get a bottle of wine and their server is chatting with them. Finally the server leaves and I know I can't in good conscience l

Service was very good but food menu was limited and sub par, went for an evening with my brother and mom, who just retired and we wanted to take for a good meal to a place we've never been. The meatball app was okay , definitely home made and but not good enough for a singular meatball at the price they've got. With a menu of only 10 items on it , the foods should taste and seem inspired. Pasta seems to be made fresh though with is amazing. I got the shrimp and scallop pasta and half of my shrimps still had some or the complete shell on them , Salted caramel gelato was very good

I am just starting to explore the restaurants up in Lewiston and this place only fuels my want to explore some more. The atmosphere here reminds me of an old timey Swiss chalet or something - loved the feel of this place. Recommendations highly recommended since it's a small cozy vibe with limited seating. We started with the crispy calamari salad - bursting with flavor. I normally don't order calamari but so happy we did. And complimentary (homemade?) fresh bread with some olive mixture that was great paired well with everything. I then had the seafood linguini. Just wow. Fantastic. Seafood cooked to perfection and the homemade linguine was delicious. Our waitresses was nice but seemed a bit slow to tend to our table at times although she was training another waitress so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt!Great spot for a date night or dinner before a concert at Artpark!
