Food was decent. Service was not good. We ordered an appetizer and it never came. Waitress had a bee in her bonnet the whole time.

Big three to keep me away from this place: weird crowd at the bar, decorations straight from 70 and rude waitress.

Fabulous meal. Their Sauerbraten, is my favorite. Also, great beer selections. Music by Ward and Charlie made it an even better experience. The atmosphere is very welcoming as is the friendly staff.

I wanted to update my original review. As I said, the Sauerbraten is my favorite. Have enjoyed it at Village Lanterne for years. My last two visits were disappointing. Instead of slices of meat, it was just chunks of meat and kind of fatty. The dumplings were not as good as they once were either. The gravy is still excellent. It used to be one of the best. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals that were not Sauerbraten. I am hoping I just got two unlucky meals and this is not the new norm.
The staff and atmosphere are all still great.

The absolute best German restaurant I've been to. Atmosphere is immediately captivating and enthralling with traditional German decor. Food was absolutely top notch; great potato pancakes and sausages. Very traditional tasting food, cannot reccomend the pork platter with the shank enough, probably their best dish. Overall very true to German cooking and excellent service that comes with it.

The staff are so lively and wonderful! Food portion was huge and definitely needed a to-go box.

The drinks and beer options were plenty and tasty. Definitely glad this caught our eye and popped in.

Disappointed the owners are racist ? can review the food because they refuse to get us a table. Hope the owners charge attitude about other people that are not Germans.

Came here for dinner because my son wanted to try German food. The atmosphere and decor of the place is fantastic...you feel like you're dining in Germany. The staff are great, and glad to give recommendations. Would certainly come again.

Came here for dinner with my fiancé. We were seated around 7:45pm. After taking our drink order, it took over 20 min for the server to come back and take our dinner order. Over the next half hour, our food still hadn’t arrived nor did our server come to check on us. They came back around 8:40-8:45pm, seemingly to check on how our food was, but seemed very surprised to return to our table and saw that our food wasn’t there. They told us they were going back to check on it since “our orders shouldn’t be taking this long to make.” By the time we received our food, it was just about 9pm. When the food was delivered, it was disappointing that there was no explanation or apology for the delay. There was also no follow up with us after we received our food to check and see if everything came out okay. By the time the server returned to check on us, we were already done eating. Only until after we paid for the check, did we finally receive some sort of apology for the delay, and the server explained that “it’s been chaos here tonight.” Other things to note: our water glasses were dirty and there were quite a few small flies flying around the dining room. I’m only giving this place 2 stars because the food was good, but otherwise I’d give it 1 star. Would not recommend unless you enjoy terribly slow service. Will likely not return.

A nice local German/Bavarian restaurant. This is my second trip to this place. I'm of Italian descent, but I come here primarily for the traditional Sauerbraten with potato dumplings and red cabbage. Many years ago, I developed a taste for this very ethnic meal. For those of you that are local to this restaurant, you may remember Georgia's. A great bar/restaurant a bit farther south on Wellwood Avenue that served some of the best Sauerbraten I've ever had. Unfortunately, Georgia's went the way of the dinosaur.
This place used to be Black Forest Bakery a number of years ago. They closed the bakery after opening the restaurant. You'll find a good selection of beers and many of the German/Bavarian fare that is usually offered in this type of restaurant. All that I tasted was great. The dessert offerings include Black Forest cake, carrot cake, and my favorite, German chocolate cake. Give them a try. No disappointments here.
