We ate there today. This place is amazing. We ordered the ribs, chicken, macaroni and cheese. We also had a pickled onions and vegetables. They were so good, and the corn bread “the best I’ve ever tasted.” We sat outside. The view is beautiful “with a gorgeous water way nearby.” You can also sit out by the fire pit and have a cocktail!🥰

We arrived right at opening time and was greeted with welcoming smile. I’m not a huge fan of barbecue usually and am a very picky eater myself, but was very pleasantly surprised myself with the order that we got. It was so good I basically inhaled the 3 ribs my stomach could afford to enjoy. The side we got was mac & cheese (was a bit soggy but still creamy, still good,) corn on the cob (the mayo sauce on top was so good, i wanted to pack the remaining half to go so badly) and corn bread (my husband finished the whole thing by himself) oh and the cole slaw- divine!
You can tell they are a family business and everyone is chipping in. The person working the register was so nice and sweet, she walked to us twice to make sure I got my sweeten iced tea. One more reason for me to support them, beside the very significant reason that this is the best food experience of our long weekend trip in the Catskill area! Will make a visit next time we go through the area for sure!
Oh and the bathroom is clean! You never know nowadays. Have both indoor and outdoor seating area to choose from.
I’m already wishing I bought some for to-go, sitting here writing this review… :)
Food took almost an hour to come, and was underwhelming (dry ribs and brisket, very dry cornbread). Place seems understaffed

It took almost an hour to get our food
I'm from the South, so you have to trust me when I say The Smoke Joint has excellent barbecue, especially the brisket! You should be wary, on the other hand, of middling reviews from Brooklynites on vacation.

Atmosphere is great, indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff. Ordered the meal for 4, it was just 2 of us (long drift) The ribs were delicious, juicy, meaty fall off the bone. Nice 1/2 chicken juicy and tender. The brisket and pulled pork very dry. Both me and my husband struggled with them. I had to smother them in extra bbq sauce and still was very dry and tough. I will say we both loved the cornbread. It was delicious. The sides we got were beans, collard greens and mac and cheese , oh and a brownie. The collard greens were good, and the beans, mac and cheese (dry) again… we weren’t fans of. The brownie was quite good though. I would go back because the ribs and cornbread were excellent. But I probably wouldn’t waste the money on the other meats. Maybe it was just that day and our meal. But it was over 100 dollars for the two of us and we were disappointed in the pulled pork, brisket and sides.

The price is premium, unfortunately, the food is very inconsistent. Went once in the spring, and it was fantastic, have been back two more times since and was disappointed both times with dry salty meat. Especially the brisket!
The sides were excellent the first time I went for the season and also have suffered as things get busier. Two out of three unsuccessful visits, I can’t risk the money again.

Awful service on the weekend, overwhelmed.
Got take out from there today - definitely would like to go again and eat there. We got the half chicken and the chopped up chicken. The chopped up chicken I had was a little tough and the portion was kind of small- like a smaller chicken breast worth. The half chicken was a nice size. The bbq sauce was a little spicy for me but still very yummy. The cole slaw was freaking so good! I could eat a whole big bowl of that. Definitely would give this place another try to try other things.

food quality took a seriously big nose dive!! pulled pork was dry as all get out and like eating shoe leather! the collard greens tasted like they were nuked in a microwave fresh out the can! Mac and cheese was flavorless! the fried chicken sandwich was so salty it was barely even edible! as a foodie whose been to several awesome BBQ joints down south, I will never go to the smoke joint again! all they are doing is catering to the city idiots who saw their place in Brooklyn on TV and turned it into a tourist trap from hell. they need to improve their food and keep the locals in mind with pricing!
Honestly one of the best places I've ever eaten and super cheap for what you get! I live super far but will make sure to be back!
