It pains me to write this as my extended family has been congregating at DeFlippo's for at least 40 years. I've been for dinner three times in the last couple of months - the food was way overpriced and just not good. First I ordered the gnocchi, I should know better having lived in Italy but I cannot resist them. Far from the desired consistency of melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness, they were tasteless and chewy. I don't recall if they make the claim that they are homemade, but they are very obviously commercial grade - and not even the best one. The sauce I won't comment on because it was my bad to even order it, other people seem to like it. The second visit was for Friday fish fry - one of my favorite meals in the world. In these parts you almost have to seek out a bad fish fry, but search no further - it was overcooked and had a slightly chemical taste, most certainly not fresh, probably the same commercial grade pre-breaded brand as the gnocchi and the scallops which I had on my 3rd visit. It is robbery what we paid for a few deep fried (and not even well) scallops that we could have found in the frozen food section of Tops for 5 bucks. I actually (naively) asked the waitress if they were fresh and she assured me they were. But of course she did. The first hint of what you're in for comes in the parking lot, the smell of fryers in action is overwhelming. I give two stars only for the nostalgia, and the wings are pretty good. But at those prices, I would expect a damn good meal.
