terrible customer service, barely a smile. i ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and a vanilla bean syrup and got it HOT. i wanted it iced the matcha latte wasn't even mixed properly and it had chunks of matcha, didn't taste a single vanilla bean flavor, and it wasn't even filled to the top for $6.80. i'm incredibly disappointed and i'll never come here again. what the fuck

I have been living in LIC for nearly 5 years. I have repeatedly tried to support this business because it is one of the only cute true coffee shops in the area. The food is pretty good, but the service has been atrocious for years. It is always an uncomfortable and unfriendly experience. My husband bought a sandwich next door and I was going to buy a sandwich from 51st and we were planning to sit together. We were very rudely reprimanded before I had a chance to even order and my husband hadnt even opened his food - it could have been groceries! I've been there watching toddlers eat their food from home while their parents enjoy a meal there, or even folks bring in bags of groceries. They could have asked us kindly to sit outside or handled this completely different instead I was directed to call the manager and they were just as rude. Why can't you get it right 51st? It could be such divine little spot and yet me and all my friends have had nothing but uncomfortable experiences at your establishment. Signed last attempt and done.

Nice clean place with a great ambience to chat or do work. Ordered the tuna sandwich — woman behind the counter was confused so I switched to tuna salad to make things easier. Tuna salad was dry and flavorless. Asked for dressing and got olive oil. Stick to the sandwiches and pastries.

I ordered an Italian sandwich, I ordered it myself and tapped the card with my own hands. But they assumed it wasn't for me just because I was with a friend who's a regular. They removed the tomatoes without confirming, making me feel discriminated against, especially as a POC, while my friend, who is Caucasian, didn't face the same issue. I'm a frequent customer too, so it's disappointing. I hope they improve their service and treat everyone fairly by paying attention to customers' orders.

Everything is so fresh and delicious at this cafe! I ate there twice while I was there visiting and I am very impressed!

I recently checked out 51st Bakery and Cafe at the suggestion of a few friends. The space is a typical cafe layout, with a good amount of seating, and order at the counter. The staff are friendly and really collegial with each other, which was nice. I got a couple of sandwiches (Smoked Salmon and Chickpea). The smoked salmon was good, the chickpea was very underspiced. I had a good experience at 51st, but would like to try it again to see if I get a few more items that I enjoy.

Cute very busy place. Sandwiches and pastries all very good (bread for avo toast was a bit too toasted for my liking). They are accommodating.Vegetarian options: Many options

Gave this place another try. Well-meaning staff, but everything else is either mediocre or downright awful. Santa Chiara continues to hold the top spot followed by Sweetleaf on Jackson (avoid Centre Blvd), then this dumpster, with Blackstar maintaining it's position as absolute worst.

I used to get coffee everyday, coffee was the best, not anymore. Coffee quality went down, prices went up and new owner changed the vibe. No thanks.

Walked into a place with loud EDM music. Got a coffee cake that was dry and crumbly. The outlet doesn’t work. This is the first and last time. Looks good from outside, disappointing inside.

Lots of hot food options. Variety of pastry options. Latte I had was great. Staff are kind and efficient. Very stroller-friendly - space is big enough for parents to come in with them. During my visit multiple parents had kids or babies in strollers with them. Others were reading peacefully at a table. Great place to grab a drink/snack and relax.Overall cute spot and would recommend!
