Went here for my sister birthday, had a good time. Make sure you set a reservations or you'll be waiting. The bottomless mimosa's will have you finished. The food was great as well. Very well seasoned and bursting with flavors.

Sup! So I headed over to Sugar Freak in Astoria for Dinner on a Friday Evening, and the Food was as Bland as a Amy Schumer stand up special or her Romantic Comedy movies... I mean, just take a look at the Mac and Cheese from my photos, it literally had no taste at all. My date for the evening came up with an idea to add salt! Which made the Mac n Cheese elevate from Horrible to Terrible... The Collard Greens tasted like a Grandmother who was born and raised in Iceland was trying to attempt to replicate a soul food dish! As far as the Chicken and Waffles, the fried Chicken was the best thing I ate that night, but I mean, that was by default when you are considering the competition/other dishes that was on the table. By time I got to the Waffles, I already accepted defeat, took one bite and it was already cold, plus the waiter recommended the buttermilk Waffles from the 3 different flavors that was on the menu, but there was no amount of adding syrup that would have save them awful things

As I paid for dinner, the waiter said, "let me box the rest of the food up for you to go!" ..
As I suffer in silence and thought to myself, "Do you have to? Like please don't"?... I actually considered to take the box of food and give it to a homeless person... But I thought to myself ? the homeless person has already suffered through enough in life, and I didn't wanted to add to that ?‍↕️

As I got home super duper late at 2:30 AM from Sugar Freak, (Thanks NYC Transit?), I purposely left the food on the kitchen counter and headed to bed, so I'll be force to THROW THAT ISH OUT in the morning...?I don't understand how this place has been rated 4.4 stars from a total of 2.3k human beings... Like?, you know how Stevie Wonder can't see, and how Thomas Edison can't hear, Well these 2.3k people can't taste! Because I don't know WHAT THE HELL THESE 2.3k human beings are talking about...

There are SO MANY amazing restaurants in Astoria... So if you narrow your choices down to 3 restaurants to choose from, and Sugar Freak is one of them, then you need to look yourself in mirror, and take a deep breath, and SLAP THE ISH outta yourself... So then maybe, you can come back to your senses and enjoy the many other options Astoria has to offer...

Food was ok, tasty but not my favorite.
We had a Colombian guy helping us and he was very kind but they don’t even offer water at the beginning, and the glasses looked dirty, specially the mason jars.
The restaurant makes you feel in the dining room of an old lady, even the smell.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, with a name like “Sugar Freak” it was hard not to. The inside of the restaurant gives you almost a “I’m sailing away” feel, the wood compliments the theme plus the cute but not overly done decor makes it a great spot for pictures. I ordered a shrimp basket, an espresso martini, and my partner tried the chicken basket and a fruity cocktail. We also got a side of the 4 types of cheese Mac and cheese (they have plenty to choose from). Food was delicious, I can definitely compare it to really good home style Louisiana food. If you like kennedys, chicken this spot out. Definitely way better. The drinks? 10/10. Smooth and strong. Fast and respectful service, which I really appreciated. If you’re in Astoria, and need some good seafood, even a little pick me up just to try, check out Sugar Freak! Will definitely be back for a boil. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

The vibe was good, the restaurant itself was beautiful. But the gumbo tasted like chicken soup, and my drink was weak. Specifically for the gumbo, there was a missing element, not sure what it was, maybe a spice or some element of heat. Probably won’t go back again.

One of my favorite places in astoria. Food is truly new Orleans style. The flavors are great. Have not had a bad meal here yet.

Nothing like it used to be. We actually had to ask for silverware. Server was barely polite. 4 people, no one was really satisfied with the food.

I love this spot. I've been there twice. It has 10-20 unique items that I'd love to try all of.

The food is heavy, but it's really authentic and really good. The atmosphere is unlike most. I love it
