We arrived at 8:30 pm when their staff was eating dinner. They had us wait for 8 10 minutes before ordering. Once ordered the sushi, the dishes came out quickly. I think take out is the best option because of the poor service. Gee sushi was not bad.

Please zoom in and see the condition of the avocado. It was smelly and I got food poisoning after eating the food here. When I asked why the avocado and other food is stale, they said because the price of it is going high. Hello! You charge us full price and give us this trash? I realized they call it Japanese food but it is made by Chinese people(do not expect to eat Japanese food here because they aren’t serving any). By the way, they are also extremely loud talking among each other and do not care if the customer is seated nearby. A disgrace to Maspeth! Never coming back again and encourage people to never come here.

Sushi and anything remotely Japanese has never been a strong point in the Maspeth dining scene, but takeout Japanese has been the rage throughout the borough for the longest time. Wakamatsu, despite the legit name, is the among the latter of the bunch and was a big time player in the delivery game. When they first opened over a decade ago, it was meant to be taken more seriously as a Japanese joint before paring down (awning included) and blending in with just about any takeout Asian spot. The restaurant itself is small, with simple decor and a handful of tables for small parties. Because it's sushi, I think dining in is the way to go for the most part. However, such a big part of their business has been delivery that even if the restaurant is empty, they're still hustling and knocking orders out constantly. For many years, they were generous with semi-thick cuts of fish, which made their nigiri and sashimi semi-robust, a relatively obscure thing for restaurants cut from the same cloth. They even had a sushi boat (dine-in only) to the delight of food pornographers (#1) and roll platters that looked like party trays. Presentation was on point and I think this was their main edge over the rest of the competition. They were open later than most spots, affordable, and were timely in their deliveries. The only thing that would give me pause was their inconsistent execution of the food, along with their so-so service. There were some days the nigiri would be falling apart or the assortment of sashimi was looking a little sadder than usual (color, quality, cut, etc.) but expectations should be as low as possible. At the end of the day, they're open later than most spots, affordable, and are timely in their deliveries. Though their inconsistent food execution and so-so service give me pause, I still think the area is better for having them as a pseudo viable sushi option in western Queens.__________(#1) Myself included.

The service for this place is non existent. Food is just mediocre. Honestly i don't know why this place is still in business

I ordered delivery through Grubhub. The food was packed well and tasted good. The Grubhub menu should be updated. Descriptions of the food would be appreciated. Also, the fried chicken wasn't fried chicken--it was chicken nuggets.

Made an order, waited 3 hours and the restaurant canceled the order! My friends were left without dinner!

Basic location. Food was good. Nothing really wow or mind blowing, but good. As with everywhere these days, prices are up considerably. Their party platters are a deal though.

Wakamatsu is a place that reminds me of my mother who loves sushi. Through all the years of my life and hers in Queens, Wakamatsu was the place she always went to for tasty sushi. The inside is cozy and the screens that separate the tables provides a nice amount of privacy. Our table was always the nearest one to the window.I explored much of her taste in sushi, only to develop my own, more pickier than hers. As of now, I usually order the tempura shrimp roll. I'll also get a miso soup and my favorite drink, a peach tea snapple. Sometimes I try to be adventurous, however I think I'll always be defined by my picky tastes in life.We know there seemed to be a change in management around 4 years ago or so. The woman we were used to seeing behind the table no longer was there as she was previously. However we're glad the wonderful food never changed once. We hope she's doing well.

(Edited from 4 stars, years ago. This place has changed for the worst.)I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt - not anymore. Stopped going here a long time ago. The building is NASTY. The floors are never clean, and the bathroom is disgraceful. Never clean everytime I went in there. Always saw multiple bugs crawling all over the place. Went to the bathroom, and once again, I see a dead roach in the corner. Five days later I come back because I'm hungry, and it's literally STILL there. You practically have to ask them to clean things. The pieces of their old dirty mop stays there on the floor for days. The food portions are small and, as expected, things are very overpriced. When they painted the walls dark, the originally bright place turned very unsettling for me.What really made me stop going is when they didn't even care to defend me when I was being harassed by two girls in front of me. Even though they know I'm a good person in their establishment for over TEN YEARS, saw the whole thing go down and everything, and yet they STILL took the girls' side when I was the victim trying to have a quiet meal. I know we're all walking money signs, but they could've at least kicked them out and actually DID something instead of just STANDING THERE watching me defend myself and my mother against these two girls!! They do nothing about these things. Not to mention, the nasty attitudes from some employees and the things going on behind closed doors. One time, an employee and her children (they were doing homework) was literally SCREAMING while everyone was trying to eat. She would be (verbally) abusing her kids in front of customers. Tone it, we're trying to eat.A friend went here today, and she said they were "cleaning" her table with dirty black rags.I went here for years and years, and I miss the way it was before. It was much cleaner, the food was better, and they were kinder people.Don't go here if you want a calm time. At least until it's back to the way it used to be, which will definitely never happen.
