Have occasionally visited this restaurant for close to 20 years, but things have really gone downhill. very inconsistent. when you go, there is almost always something they typically serve that is not available (margarita, guacamole, deserts - all things that have not been available on various occasions I've visited) also inconsistent as to when they are even open. they were closed on cinco de Mayo and completely derailed our plans for the evening when we showed up to nothing but a handwritten sign saying they wouldn't be open for the holiday. a Mexican restaurant closed on cinco de Mayo. imagine that! tried to go again last night, sign on the door has the "open" hours, the internet has their "open" hours, but when we went they were completely closed anyway. what a waste of time! I attached a photo of the completely dark/locked restaurant along with the sign showing their supposed business hours, stating that they should be open until 10PM. The photo was taken well before 10PM. A complete lack of any web or social media presence leads to poor/nonexistent communication with their customers - or the people who might want to try to be their customers. great example of how not to run a restaurant!

Worst restaurant experience I have had in a very long time. The waitstaff was non helpful and for a business that depends on customers, they were not accommodating at all. There was only one other 2 top in the restaurant and we had no help. My food came out warm to room temperature in the middle and not satisfying. They did not bring the proper items that we ordered. I personally do not recommend this establishment and I will never be going back.

Food was good. Service was horrible. There were only 4 other tables active on a Saturday night and it still took for ever for our drinks to be refilled. 3 out of the 6 orders came to the table wrong and I told the waitress it was my wife's birthday. When she gave us the check she said sorry, she forgot. Will not be going back there ever.

STILL the best Mexican restaurant in New York after all these years. If you go home hungry, go to the doctor, something is wrong with you! Their rice and refried beans can be described in two words: Consistently Good! OMG the flavor! I am soiled by them to the point I go to other places and compare them to Don Juan! I asked for a half pitcher of peach sangria. It was so large we couldn't finish it and had to stop or I would have had to take an Uber. Their Sol Ranchero is amazing. Others have copied this (margaritas cafe), but there is NO comparison. It was a romantic and enjoyable night there. One of these visits I MIGHT save room for dessert!

Delicious food, everything is fresh. People complain about the prices clearly don’t eat out often. It’s a shame this place doesn’t get more business.

It was not too good, not very authentic and the most expensive Mexican restaurant I have ever been to.

Have never wrote a bad review before, and in this day and age it's tough to write a bad review about a small business. However, something needs to change at this restaurant. I ordered takeout from Don Juan today from their "online menu". I ordered a burrito that was $12 and a 9 layer taco salad for $10. When I arrived at the restaurant to pick up my order they gave me the bill which came out to $54!!! When I asked the employee why the price was so high she replied with "oh that's our old menu and there is nothing we can do". The burrito came out to $28 and the 9 layer taco salad was $22. Add tax and it came out to $54. I was very taken off guard and shocked, especially because a burrito is priced at $28!!! If I knew this was the price I would have never ordered from this restaurant and in the future will never again order or go here. Besides the misleading prices, the lack of sympathy and accommodation from the staff was a major issue. Almost like this happens all the time and as a customer we should know this is the old menu. Bad taste in my mouth. Do not recommend. Would not have wrote this review if the staff was more understanding of the situation and saw where I was coming from. But like I said, they made it seem like I was the idiot for not knowing the prices.

Way overpriced and older lady manager is disgustedly rude and she is a complete lier. DON’T EAT HERE!! This place should closed down. I contacted bbb about their prices on menu vs. website menu. This place is a complete scam!

Don't eat here! Very over priced and website menu price is 1/2 price of live menu price. Complete scam!

Save your money!! I walk in on a Friday at 7:15pm to see only one quest seated. I should have known something was off about this restaurant. I was seated and gave it a chance. The food is overpriced for the portions and taste. The staff was very nice .

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Outrageous prices for tiny portions. A chimichanga meal consisting of three chimichangas lacking in steak and a small amount of rice and beans, SHOULD NOT COME TO $28 A PLATE! I understand Covid hit the restaurants hard, but to increase the price from $13 to $28 is just wrong. How can you expect to keep your customers happy, and coming back when you are robbing them. A dinner for seven of simple, basic, so-so Mexican food with four margaritas and three sodas should NOT come to $365!!! Robbery. Also, when looking over their online menu prior to comin, the prices were listed as their old reasonable prices. Do Not Come here unless you can afford to piss your money away. I'm sorry. I used to love this place. Never again.

Bizarrely overpriced food for incredibly small portions. Not impressed.
