Expensive tickets to even get close to the lighthouse is kind of a bummer especially after paying to park. Walking around is fine and also the cliffs nearby make it worth the 8 dollar fee to park but not worth 40-50 for a family to go to the lighthouse after
I was a surreal experience. We went there on a weekend. You should be there by early afternoon to have better experience. There are picnic spots near the light house too. There was line of 40-50 minutes to see the top of the functioning lighthouse.
A must visit for anyone living, or visiting N.Y. I make it out there at least twice a year. I use to go more often when I lived on Long Island. It's so beautiful out there. I've also walked up to the top of the lighthouse, which wasn't easy, but worth it. Pack lunch, or stop at one of the restaurants on your way through. Its a nice day trip.
