My boyfriend and I came here on 7/2 at 3:30 PM and there were already about 6-8 groups ahead of us. The first two or three were seated, and the rest were placed on the waitlist in case of a cancellation. Since there were so many people ahead, we figured it was safer to eat somewhere else instead of waiting around. Good thing we did, because we never got a text about an opening.
We decided to try again the next day and arrived at 2:45 PM. This time, we were third in line! By the time the restaurant opened, the line was already halfway down the block. It's definitely true that your odds are better if you're a party of four rather than two. Around 4:45, the host came out to let everyone know whether they'd be able to squeeze us in. My boyfriend and I, along with the two groups ahead of us, were offered the choice to either dine right away or come back at 6 PM. We all chose to dine right away, with the understanding that we'd need to give the table back by 5:30 PM. That ended up being more than enough time. I believe we were the last party of two to be seated. The only group seated after us was a party of four, everyone else was turned away.
The service? Out of this world. We ordered the cheeseburger, the 4 Charles prime rib, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. Our server asked if we planned to split everything, and when we said yes, he offered to bring out the burger first so we could enjoy it separately before diving into the rest of the meal. That small gesture made the experience feel thoughtful and unrushed. The burger lived up to the hype. A little pricey, but totally worth it for a special occasion (we were visiting from out of town and celebrating our 2 year anniversary). My boyfriend inhaled it in under a minute. No exaggeration.
The prime rib was perfectly cooked! Tender, juicy, flavorful, and had the perfect amount of fat:meat ratio. A definite must-try.
Now, the mashed potatoes. Don't even talk to me about them. These were the mashed potatoes l've been dreaming of my whole life and never knew actually existed. Absolute star of the show for me. The mac and cheese was also incredible. Crispy on top, super creamy, and they definitely didn't skimp on the cheese sauce.
We both ordered Cokes with no ice, and the refills kept coming. Not once were our glasses left empty. Each time, they remembered the no ice request without asking. After the burger, our server reset the table with fresh plates and silverware before bringing out the rest of the food. They even wiped down the table with a wet cloth before dessert. We shared the raspberry sorbet, and they brought out two ice-cold cups for us to scoop it into. I found it a little too tart for my taste, but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. We were too full to try any of the cakes, but I've heard they're a must.
All in all, this is definitely a spot you have to try at least once in your life. Just make sure to get there early since reservations are basically impossible to get. No matter how you look or how much you spend, the 4 Charles team will treat you like they would an A-list celebrity. Thank you 4 Charles for making our anniversary an unforgettable one!

Went here with my Dominatrix GF... when I got to the city... drove in from New Windsor NY...food was out standing. I was worried about the prices but thanks to a stop at my Hotel... I was hit with a streak of luck. Finding $300 laying on the sidewalk as I exited the hotel to go meet my GF.... both of us had the burger with egg and the loaded baked potato was one of the best I've ever had. I'm glad she suggested this place said it was her go to spot when she was out with her friends

We were in town for my birthday trip and managed to be first in line for the waitlist consideration. We saw every single person working hard to prepare for a good night. We waited two hours before opening to secure our spot in the blazing heat and I’d do it again, not only for the food, but for the service! We were greeted by wonderful wait staff and for the first 8-minutes of opening had the entire place to ourselves. It didn’t feel transactional! They wanted us to enjoy our dinner. Highly recommend the crab legs, the burger, the French dip! All of the food was impeccable with beautiful presentation. Thank you for ending my birthday trip with a delightful dinner! We were grateful for the last minute table and hope to come back soon! Do not skip this one - it’s worth it!

The French Dip and Chicago Cut were both perfection, and the whole vibe of the restaurant was special from start to finish. Huge thanks to the team for making this visit happen — this place lives up to every bit of the hype. Can’t wait to return one day!

4 Charles is famously difficult to get into for a reason.... today I experienced why. I snagged a walk-in lunch spot (impossible to get reservations online beforehand) by showing up an hour early. It was totally worth it. The famous french dip prime rib sandwich was fantastic, as promised. I think the burger was even better... probably the best in nyc (and that's saying a lot). The bar is classic, with an experienced bartender... Drinks were superior (Vesper martini -yum). Dont skip dessert....Although nothing was groundbreaking, they were well made and tasty. It was a nice ending to the meal. The wait staff were friendly and fun, contrary to what everyone says online. 5 well-earned stars.

We finally managed to secure a reservation at 4 Charles, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Upon arrival, we were seated right away. Our server was attentive, introducing himself and offering recommendations.
To start, we ordered the otoro tartare with caviar, roasted bone marrow, and elote corn. The bone marrow was rich and flavorful, and I especially loved the corn. For our entrées, we chose the lamb chops, wagyu prime rib French dip, double wagyu cheeseburger, and ribeye. The cheeseburger was phenomenal—definitely worth the buzz. While the lamb chops and French dip were enjoyable, they felt somewhat average in comparison.
For sides, we opted for fries and the truffle mac and cheese. These were decent but nothing special—you could easily skip them. Dessert, however, was a highlight. The chocolate cream pie is a must-try.
Overall, 4 Charles is absolutely worth the visit!

First off, I want to thank Brandon, Rebecca and rest of the staff for such a wonderful time yesterday. The food was amazing and I would definitely come back if I can snag another reservation.
The Wagyu burger was so good with the eggs, I had to lick all the juices off the plate to savor the taste. I also had the little gem salad which was very crunch and fresh.
The main course I had the Chicago cut prime rib along with mashed potatoes and creamy spinach. The charred ends along with the fat made it taste amazing. The middle part was also very tender and juicy. I highly recommend this cut! I also wanted to try the shrimp scampi because the aroma was off the charts, but next time!
Just an overall great experience and worth it!

Without a doubt this is my favorite restaurant in NYC and perhaps my favorite restaurant of all time. The staff - especially Brandon and Clayton - all go above and beyond to ensure you have an exceptional experience from start to finish and could not be more amiable and accommodating. Aside from the atmosphere, the food is to die for. My favorite and best bites have all been here as many of the dishes literally melt in your mouth. I could write a dissertation on the burger (be sure to add egg & bacon!) and the king crab is divine. It is challenging to get a reservation but 1000% worth the patience! Thank you so much to the entire 4 Charles team for a lovely experience and for making special occasions all the more special. ✨
