I work in the building next door which is the same property and for some reason this restaurant regularly forgets to turn on their extractor (vent) before cooking. The result is that the entire building smells like fried food. I love the smell of fried food when I’m eating it - not when I’m working and meeting with clients. The super has to constantly remind them to do this basic task.

I ordered from the 14th street location via grubhub. My order specified white meat chicken only but when my order arrived, I received dark meat chicken. Over the phone they told me there was an extra charge for white meat. There was NO indication of this on their website. I had to go to the 14th street location to return my food. They DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRICES. The extra charge would have been paid if it was specified. They've lost a customer. I'll never go there to eat in person or order online.

Ordered two plates, one smothered chicken and one honey fried chicken. I had to wait 35 minutes for Mac and cheese that ended up being cooked with spoiled milk. The greens were so salty and over cooked, I couldn't eat it. The chicken was fired so hard, I couldn't bite it. Over $60 wasted for food that had to be thrown in the trash.

Pink Chicken and waffles..

Waffle was bland. You can make this at home with store bought mix.

Tasteless chicken. No seasoning, no brine. The chicken was pink.

For $25, tasteless and dangerous.

I'm a regular at Amy Ruth's restaurant in Harlem and I'm always down to grab some Soul Food on my days off with my friends when I have the time. Quite recently, I found out that Amy Ruth's had a second location closer to where I work downtown. It was almost perfect because now I can pick up some food either on the way to work, or order some during my lunch break.

One of my friends and I decided to check this location out on Saturday and I have to say, it was really beyond our expectations. We were greeted by Jayda who took our orders and also informed us that Tim would be our Chef for the day.

To start, my friend ordered a half and half lemonade / iced tea and I ordered a regular lemonade. My lemonade tasted like it was freshly squeezed and made me feel like a kid again. Wait time for our food was no longer than a few minutes since we were the first ones in the store. We both ordered three fried chicken wings on a waffle, homemade macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and candied yams. My friend and I devoured our meals and even saved some for later. The last thing we ordered was their signature red velvet cake and creamy banana pudding. Absolute perfection.

If I'm being honest, I've eaten at a few other Soul Food restaurants in the city, and in my opinion, Amy Ruth's is number one on my list. Amy Ruth's Downtown is definitely worth checking out whether you're in the area for a quick bite, or just have a craving for some authentic southern cuisine.

NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS. I ended up ordering from here anyway. The atmosphere, service, vibe and overall experience were lacking. The food was good but not great - flavorful, well portioned, not too pricy but had zero presentation. I just can't see this being my go-to spot in an area with other, better options :/

I ordered baked catfish, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese.. When my food came out, I had fried catfish and the waitress told me they don’t have baked catfish after I repeated my order to her, and she repeated it back to me🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ Now she did ask me if I wanted to change it but change it to what plus it was my lunch hour and I was really hungry. It wasn’t too bad. It was seasoned pretty good while I’m eating my collard greens. I noticed it had pieces of macaroni in it.🤔🤔.. So you use the same spoon to serve my macaroni that you used for the collard greens😡😡… Me and my coworker dined in you would think that they would serve you on regular plates with Silverware we got plastic takeout containers, along with a plastic fork and spoon package…🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ I don’t see a reason for me to ever step foot back in Amy Ruth’s again I wish him the best though.

First time eating from this restaurant, orderd delivery via uber eats. Fried Catfish with, two sides, mac n cheese & candied yams. Complements to the Chef and this locations staff, and whomevers grandmother's recipe was used to prepare those home cooked dishes. The portions were very down south americana, BIG, all the food arrived hot. The catfish was flawless, perfectly seasoned and fried, the black a roni and cheeee tasted how black a roni and cheese is supposed to taste, the yams snd corn bread were also delicious. I also appreciated how the corn bread portions were not bite sized. What moved me the most was that this restaurant served me the embodiment of Soul Food, a simple meal, with simple ingredients, but cooked with TLC & attention to detail, you can just taste thet love went into preparing and presenting the meal, true down South Soul Food.

A nice oasis in the center of busy Union Square. Beautiful wall tribute to African America royalty while serving traditional southern fare. Huge portions and homemade taste. What more could you ask?

First off, this restaurant has great customer service and the young ladies in the front are extremely kind and friendly. Secondly, I am a foodie from the south, so I know good southern comfort food when I taste it. Honestly, the food at the this location is not very good. We ordered fried chicken wings, macaroni and cheese, green beans and collard greens. The fried chicken was over cooked and fried too hard. I did not enjoy it at all because it was dry and prepared too well done. Almost to the point of a jerky chew consistency. Also, the cook cut the wings up and served the drum and flat portions when the menu stated whole chicken wings. The macaroni and cheese was dry and my green beans were limp and overcooked as well. I prefer the original Harlem location and learned after reading other reviews the downtown location is primarily for “to-go” orders. Nonetheless the food should be consistent with the original location in which it is not. Especially for the pricey menu, which I left feeling like I wasted money on food I could not eat nor did I enjoy.
