Atera is an extraordinary expression of restraint, intelligence, and craft—one of those rare New York restaurants that understands luxury as something felt rather than announced. It is an experience defined by precision and calm, not spectacle.

The setting is serene and intimate, designed to remove distraction and allow full attention to the food. Service is seamless and deeply professional, anticipating needs without intrusion and guiding the evening with a confident, unhurried rhythm.

The cuisine is meticulous and thoughtful, each course composed with remarkable clarity and purpose. Ingredients are treated with reverence, flavors layered with subtlety rather than excess. Nothing feels performative; everything feels deliberate. One leaves not dazzled in a loud way, but quietly impressed—a far more lasting impression.

Atera is the sort of restaurant one chooses for meaningful evenings and discerning company, where excellence is understood rather than explained. In a city rich with ambition, it stands apart through its discipline and depth.

An exceptional establishment. Five stars, without question.

Incredible 2-star for dinner in a small intimate setting. Every dish was carefully curated and delicious. Would definitely come back for the Wagyu, tuna, and desserts.

I was quite moved by my meal at Atera. The food was exceptional and certainly earned its 2 star rating. I can't remember a better meal in Manhattan, and certainly more interesting than what I've had at Per Se, Masa, Le Bernadin, 11 Madison etc. There were many elaborate and exquisite dishes with bold flavors and delightful presentations, and of course enough truffles, caviar, sea urchin, etc to justify the price tag.
The wine pairings were good, but not particularly memorable. I'm glad I got them, but one could easily pass on the wines here.
Service was friendly, but a little awkward at times. For example they seemed to stumble through the rehearsed wine descriptions, or forgot which dishes had already come out.
Sitting around the kitchen is a treat and it's a pleasure to watch and interact with the cooks, however the chairs are a bit uncomfortable and the bathroom door needs some work.
All that said I came for the food and left completely satisfied.

We had a great evening at Atera last week.. having mainly been to Michelin star place in EU the experience was definitely different. It's all over in a bit over 2 hours, and apart from the (not entirely cheap) menu there's lot of extra's. Order a few glasses of champagne (Krug) and a desert wine (d'yquem) and the price doubles. The food was masterfully prepared, service was good, but most staff didn't really make contact.. not really used to that in e.g. Spain or Italy. Exception was Matthew, thought he looked a bit like Matthew McConaughey with the beard, great guy and from what I read the wine director, he really made our night.. thanks Matthew!.

A standout restaurant where quality speaks in every bite. Elegant ambiance and memorable food.

This is a fantastic restaurant for a private event, the room they have is incredible. The service was fantastic. If I were Michelin I would give this 1.5 stars. It will beat any 1 star restaurant but it was not as memorable or special food wise as other two stars I’ve been to. The meat (beef and duck) and dessert courses were surprisingly disappointing. The restaurant shines in its seafood courses.

I had an unforgettable dinner at Atena NYC on November 19, 2025 at 7:00 PM, and it was exceptional from beginning to end. The moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. Every team member we interacted with was knowledgeable, attentive, and truly made us feel taken care of.

A very special thank you to the chef, who graciously gave us a tour of the entire restaurant. It was such an unexpected and memorable experience, and it really showed why Atena has earned its 2 stars…the passion, precision, and pride behind every detail are unmistakable.

The food was outstanding, beautifully executed, balanced, and full of flavor. Each dish was thoughtful and refined, with high-quality ingredients showcased in a way that felt both creative and comforting. The pacing of the meal was perfect, and every plate demonstrated the kind of technique and consistency worthy of its accolades.

The wine selection was equally impressive. Our server guided us through pairings that elevated each course without overpowering the dishes. The wine program clearly reflects the same level of care and expertise as the kitchen.

Overall, Atena delivers a truly remarkable dining experience, exceptional hospitality, refined cuisine, thoughtful wine pairings, and a team that genuinely cares. Their 2 stars are well-deserved, and I highly recommend Atena to anyone looking for an elevated and memorable dinner in New York City.

We hosted a work dinner in a private room at Atera and I will say it was the perfect choice! Food was amazing, wine pairing was fab, service was excellent, and the ambience was just right for hosting customers, prospects, and execs. The entrance was interesting and a bit mysterious (slightly dark and narrow halls) but as soon as you get in, you have a private room with 3 dedicated chefs waiting. Every single plate served was lovely and the ambience allowed for great conversations making the evening memorable. Would like to come back with my husband next!

Atera is truly a special dining experience. Every course is creative, beautifully presented, and full of surprising, balanced flavors. You can tell how much thought and skill goes into each dish — it’s like art on a plate. The service is warm and professional, and the intimate setting makes the whole experience feel personal and memorable. Definitely one of the best tasting menus in the city. 🍽️✨

This is a review of dinner on July 4, 2025:
Being welcomed at the door on the street to this hidden restaurant was a nice touch, but that’s where the warmth ended. Inside, the atmosphere felt overly austere and quiet—almost cold. There was no real conversation or connection with the staff, and having a different server for every course made it impossible to build any rapport.

The food was generally well-executed but leaned heavily into the “every bite is an umami bomb” approach. It’s an Asian-inspired Scandinavian style that, at this point, doesn’t feel particularly original. I was hoping for something more inventive, especially from a two-star Michelin spot, but there weren’t any real surprises throughout the meal.

One of my courses arrived missing an element—something I only noticed because of my husband’s plate. It took quite a while to fix, and the staff barely acknowledged the error, which I found unacceptable given the price point.

Overall, Atera is dated, and the service didn’t meet two-star standards. I wouldn’t recommend it—there are far more innovative and inviting dining experiences in NYC right now.
