The food was wonderful! We shared a sampling of several items. The items that stood out to me were the Lamb Kebabs, Muhammara, and the pita bread.
Would definitely do it again

Au Za'atar - Midtown East I keep coming back for your food week after week. The restaurant provides attractive surroundings. The plates arrive full and the staff treats you well. The employees share information helpfully while being pleasant. I'll definitely come back again.

We had been to the other location a couple of years ago so when we were back in the city wanted to revisit the restaurant but in this location. This location is definitely bigger and more spacious so the atmosphere was more enjoyable.
We started off with the muhammara and we also got complimentary oils and pickes. The muhammara was really good with a good portion and good flavor. We also got the kabob with rice, a salad, as well as 4 small pies. The pies were really good aa they were freshly made and you could taste the fresh bread out of the oven. The salad was decent and the kabobs were good and were a good size portion.
Good food in terms of quantity and flavor, a bit pricy but that is expected for New York City.

The side of rice and beef was surprisingly incredible. My sibling ate all of it and barely left any for me as I ordered it for my main. I have been trying ti recreate it without any luck. Great spot for a bigger family dinner, lovely service too.

Everything here was great. We highly recommend the hendbeh, sheeshbarak, and fattoush! Very good vegetarian options. Elena was great and helped make the atmosphere very welcoming.
Au Za’atar looks inviting and the service was fine, but the experience left us disappointed. Shawarma is what they advertise most, so we assumed it was the highlight, only to find out after sitting down that it’s not even on the menu, something we wish we had known or at least been told to ask about.
Thinking the Mixed Grill Platter Supreme was the featured dish, we ordered it, but for nearly a hundred dollars it came out far smaller than described, nothing close to a meal for four. The baba ghanoush was tasty but tiny for the price, the bread was scarce, and the fries seemed like filler. Drinks were the final letdown; $6.50 for a Coke, felt excessive.
Overall, the food was fine, but between the missing shawarma, small portions, and steep prices, it didn’t feel worth it.

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here at Au Za'atar. The bar rests against a gorgeous green backdrop. I was seated quickly and ordered a large fattoush salad and hummus. The appetizers alone almost filled up my trio. For the entree I ordered the Dorade. That fish was so good. I didn't have any room for desert. The price is well-placed for the quality of the meal and experience that you are getting.
All around this place has truly impressed and I'll definitely be back. There's a lot of options to try on the menu.

Service was terrible. Ordered chicken shawarma for the table. Chicken was very dry and cold. The heating dish is supposed to be heated, but they weren’t able to find an extension cord to keep the food, warm and hot. We were sitting outside and the food was pretty much cold. They are also supposed to be cutting the chicken off the skewer for you and they didn’t even do that.
