I've lived in lower Manhattan over 20 yrs and traveled far & wide to find a high-quality, authentic unpretentious Chinese restaurant close by. (I absolutely loved Red Egg & Funky Broome btw.) This checked all my boxes.

The environment is clean and welcoming, the dishes are creative and full of surprises, and every meal feels thoughtfully prepared. The staff are professional and attentive, and you can really feel the passion behind how this place is run.

August Gatherings is truly a legendary Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown. My roommate’s auntie mentioned that whenever there’s an important occasion, this is her go-to spot for gatherings.
