I really wanted to like this place. The reviews were amazing, and I knew from jump this is not the place to go to for excellent service. The chef and owner can be brash and downright rude. He is so busy doing everything in the place, that you as the guest are expected to just hang out until the food is done. When I went in, he didn't greet me at all, there were no tables available but I didn't mind waiting. I saw he had 4 different tables full of people waiting for food so I waited until he acknowledged me to order. He told me I had to wait and that was fine. I wanted to eat at the place, but he assumed because I was standing that I was ordering to go. A table cleared up, but he was busy making the food to clear the table, which I understand. He ended up giving me the food to go, I asked for a Thai iced tea and he told me he has it, but he couldn't make it for me because he was too busy. I was going to pay with cash, but he had no change for a $50, so I went next door to get change. Honestly, I wasn't stressing about the service because I knew I was there mainly for the food, so I was really really disappointed with what I got. I will start off with the positives and that's
1. The chicken soup was jam packed with flavor. It was so delicious. I just wish it hadn't spilled in the bag.
2. The chicken was fried perfectly. Not dry and not undercooked. Just right.

Now for the cons...
1. The chicken was barely seasoned. And there was no spicy plum sauce with it. For $17, I was also expecting more chicken than was in there
2. The ginger rice tasted dry, old, and hard. I was so disappointed because I've had amazing ginger rice in other places, even from food trucks and this was not it man
3. The cucumbers were old and wilted. Just haphazardly cut and chucked into the takeout container.

I was really let down by the food quality. Maybe he was just swamped that day and couldn't keep up with the quality. I understand wanting to be a one man show, but man does the quality control suffer because of it. One man can't do every single job of a sit down restaurant and it showed. I will give it another try another day, perhaps when it isnt crowded.

I've been eating at Bangklyn since 2001, and I've never been disappointed. The food is amazing, and the owners are kind and humble. I go every few weeks because the food is so delicious.
