Tucked away in Greenwich Village, Banter blends feel-good food with a thoughtful café experience. It’s lively without being loud, stylish without feeling too curated just the right balance for an easy morning or mid-afternoon recharge.

Their seasonal specials are always worth trying, but even the classics hit the mark. The eggs are perfectly poached, the mushrooms rich and earthy, and the sourdough toast has that ideal crunch. Pair it with their signature coffee blends, and you’ve got a moment worth savoring.

This isn’t just another pretty brunch spot it’s one with soul.

Really wanted to love this place with the excellent service and atmosphere, but their menu is unacceptably and vaguely labeled. They have food such as the falafel bowl labeled GF (gluten free) only to find out after asking that the fryer is not dedicated!! As someone with Celiac, no restaurant should be labeling a food GF that is not GF. Will not be giving my repeat business to a restaurant with such careless handling of food warning labels.

Hands down the worst French toast I’ve ever had. Calling it “Nutella French toast” should be a crime unless Nutella rebranded and changed their recipe cuz it tasted like some off brand chocolate spread. There was also barely of it in the French toast, just a thin sad smear like they were rationing. And the granola on top made everything so much more dry and chalky and was a terrible random match. I don’t go into the city for brunch often at all so this was a major let down.

Our local options expanded nicely with this new addition. The meals here won my approval completely. Staff members maintained exceptional warmth! This place creates a positive vibe. Make your own decision about this restaurant.

The food was delish and on the healthier side of most brunch options. Prices were just right.

Best meal I had in the Us, coincidentely the first also. Great service, I advice to get the full banter plate.

My hesitation to try this place was my own loss. The ambiance adds to the experience. Employees were also impressive with service. The visual appeal was high, but so was the sodium content. Banter NYC exceeds what you typically find.

Overall, this is a charming and low-key spot with friendly staff, but the menu and food quality left a lot to be desired. While the menu states you can get eggs “any style,” egg whites aren’t an option, a surprising and inconsiderate oversight for anyone watching their cholesterol, especially given how easy it is to accommodate. The grilled chicken was completely bland, with no seasoning whatsoever, and the hash browns were clearly just frozen patties that had been reheated. As a military veteran, I recognized the scrambled eggs as powdered, a detail that might be acceptable in a chow hall, but not at this price point. Coffee options were also disappointing, with limited sweeteners and no liquid options for iced drinks.

We visited banter for brunch with friends. Had to wait inline to get in for about 15 minutes. The staff were friendly and the service was great. Food was a bit pricey compared to what I would normally pay for brunch.

Banter in the West Village nails the cozy Aussie café vibe—brilliant flat whites, buzzy brunch bowls, and crowd-pleasers like Nutella‑stuffed French toast and that silky “Golden Folded Eggs.” The space feels friendly and laid‑back, with indoor benches and a cheerful outdoor setup, plus staff who keep things moving fast—even when it’s slammed. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but the quality and energy make it worth it for a casual catch‑up, solo coffee run, or easy weekend brunch.

Future uncertain. Dropped in for our usual visit while on holiday from Melbourne. Good food and flat white coffee. Great friendly service! Sad to hear it's been bought by a US corporation and worried it will lose its Aussie vibe. Hopefully new management won't damage the great asset they bought!
