Rude waiter, put his hand up in the air towards my face to stop talking when I was helping my friend order. Inattentive. Had to be asked for everything. Not proactive. I felt rushed when I was talking like he had 10 better things to be doing that his job. He also kept putting his hands on our backs when we were ordering… but it felt more like an invasion of space

I am writing this poor review based on how the server treated my mom at this restaurant. My mom was very curious and excited to try the food from the Beach Cafe. As soon as she walked in, she was faced with an unwelcome ambiance by the server. My mom ordered a turkey burger deluxe and the server practically shoved the menu in front of her face and pointed out the prices of the burger and the cottage fries when neither of those questions were ever asked. He strongly made it a point to let my mom know as if she could not afford the food which was never the case. It makes me wonder if majority of the staff at the Beach Cafe are like this as well as how long have they been doing this. It is very unacceptable and inappropriate as it sends a clear negative message on how they treat customers from different backgrounds. Although the food was very delicious, the hospitality however was subpar and unwelcoming.

When we arrived there today with our baby and stroller, they told us that they should take the stroller inside and we can't keep it open which was reasonable. The weird thing was that they don't have highchair for the babies and they were expecting a 20 mo baby sit on a regular chair.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was beyond unacceptable.

We actually found a piece of broken glass in our chips. Yes—glass. When we flagged it, the servers were unresponsive, and their only “solution” was to offer to make us another batch (as if we’d dare eat more after that). To make matters worse, they still planned to charge us for the bill as if nothing had happened.

The service was terrible from the start. The waitress who first greeted us looked like she didn’t want to be there, with an attitude that made us feel unwelcome. The waitstaff overall were inattentive, and when we raised the glass issue, the manager showed no urgency or accountability—almost daring us to keep eating their food.

Between the dangerous food safety issue, the dismissive attitude, and the attempt to still charge us after serving glass, this place is a hard never again.

Freaking love this place. Open late-night, dimly lit eclectic decor, good music, superb Chicken Milanese, Burger/Cottage Fries, excellent service, classic UES neighborhood spot. 10/10

The Beach Cafe is hands-down one of my all-time favorite NYC staples. I’ve been coming here for 24 years, and even though I moved out of the city 15 years ago, it’s still a must-visit every time I’m back. There’s just something special about this place from the consistently delicious comfort food to the classic New York charm that never fades.

Dave has done an incredible job preserving that old-school NYC vibe while keeping the menu fresh, flavorful, and satisfying.

I recommend The Beach Cafe to all my friends traveling to the city, it’s a hidden gem that deserves all the love.

Thank you for always making me feel so welcome and for continuing to serve up the food (and atmosphere!) I crave. Can’t wait for my next visit! 🫶🏼

A gem of a bar and restaurant where I’ve always had delicious food and drinks at a fair price, excellent and friendly service, and enjoyable conversations with plenty of good humor thrown in.

Avoid this place at all costs! We stumbled upon it by accident when we were hungry, and decided to give it a try — what a huge mistake. The food was atrocious and wildly overpriced, the beer was flat, the service was indifferent at best, and the atmosphere was downright depressing.

We ordered burgers, which I would not recommend to anyone. Honestly, you'd be far better off grabbing one from the nearest Shake Shack or Smashburger. The buns were dry and tasted days old, topped with three limp, sad pickle slices, an enormous ring of raw red onion (which seems to be their signature garnish on every dish), and a wilted scrap of romaine lettuce. That was it! No tomato, no sauce, no dressing of any kind. The only remotely passable thing was the meat patty itself. The fries were awful, clearly reheated and stale. They forgot numerous things of our order and kept coming back and apologizing.

I can't believe a place like this is still in business in 2025 on the UES. I'm so mad at myself and it genuinely pains me that out of all the restaurants in the neighborhood, I ended up here and paid good money for such a terrible experience. Save yourself the regret and skip this spot entirely.

Great place for a casual meal. The burger was good, fries were crispy. The pizza was good for a place that isn’t a pizza place. Also the staff was very friendly. I was just disappointed they didn’t have the French onion mac and cheese. I rated it a 4 because there wasn’t a standout dish. I would go back for the burger though - only $13 and good portion and tasted great.

The burger is excellent and my preference over JG (sorry). The servers are very friendly and prompt. Also it’s a great deal.

While looking for a casual place to grab a bite to eat before hopping on the Q, we came across Beach Cafe, and decided to grab our bite in here. It was a beautiful day out, so we sat outdoors, under their awning and table umbrellas, and enjoyed people-watching on the sidewalk. The brunch menu was pretty extensive, as we were able to order lunch options as well. We ordered the Cobb Salad and the Chicken Salad Sliders. Both were very fresh, tasty and the perfect portion sizes. Prices were decent, and food was good. We would come back here, as we enjoyed the vibe outdoors as well. The space was decorated with a casual beachy theme, so it was not just tables thrown on a sidewalk in the middle of Manhattan. They took the effort to decorate and make it a little more unique, which I appreciate. Service was good, and the food came out quickly. All in all, a good experience all around.
