Really disappointing meal. I'm not sure what happened but this is NOT the Old Bens. I'm from Rockland and I LOVE this food. But they have definitely changed cooking methods or suppliers.First -the pastrami tasted like packaged deli meat. This isn't a fresh in-house steamed pastrami...and if it is; they should fire the chef. Tasteless, fatty (not the good kind of fat), and it tasted overly processed. Like it was sent to Ben's in vacuum sealed plastic from a place far far away. Just not what you expect when you come to the Famous Bens. Then, they tried to pass of WHITE WONDER BREAD as seedless rye. It wasn't substantial enough to hold up the sandwich, and it just fell apart in me. Bizarre way to cut cost- white bread? Did they think we wouldn't know? And of course they have no seeded rye...Just criminal to eat pastrami on white WONDER bread and have no seeded option. Thats like lox with no capers-bizarre.I will say this; the knish and matza ball soup were amazing. But honey,... that pastrami and white bread is enough to make me never go back. Over $75 for lunch and I took my half of the sandwich home for my dog, but ended up giving it to a homeless man by the train. Then we asked for the check. Ready for this? The waiter, (tho very lovely), came and read aloud- line by line...EACH item we ordered on the check. Then he repeated, to my date, the tax and total bill amount. It was so strange. Did he think he couldn't read? Who needs a tutor for line items on a bill? I'm laughing as I type this. I'm not mad; just sooooo confused why a waiter would do that. Bizarre. If a lady doesn't see the bill why would you proceed to announce it? OddConclusion: Not worth the trip if you like quality meat, and don't like bizarre surprises.

A very large typical deli in Manhattan. The owners strive to make every customer happy they make the very best matzoh balls, and they also have tongue sandwiches. They’re my very favorite.

Very disappointed. I ate there 7/9/23 with my family. I was really looking forward to a good meal, it had been about 20 years since I had been to that particular deli which was good back then. The hot corned beef I ordered was like chewing on an old rubber tire, literally. I am not exaggerating It was tough with lots of fat (grizzle). My son's fried chicken sandwich was undercooked and looked nasty. One bite and that's all he ate. My daughters hamburger was fine and my wife said her brisket sandwich was okay.. The waitress NEVER came back after we received our food so we couldn't even let anyone know about the food quality issues. We asked a different waitress, after waiting 45 minutes later to speak with a manager. She was helping the table near us. The manager (sorry I did not get her name, polite Asian woman) came to our table and I told her how we had no service and the waitress never came back. We could see our waitress on the complete other side of the restaurant serving customers over there! I didn't mention to the manager about the poor food quality because I was ready to just leave after waiting so long. She apologized and I asked for the bill. My family and I were all disappointed and agreed never going there again. I left cash on the table and we walked out. Not worth a $100+ meal! I would NOT recommend Ben's Deli on W 38th St. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I ever had and I'm 53 years old.-Glen

I loved the old bens, prior to it becoming Mr Broadway. The menu has totally changed and all my favorites have gone! We tried various items the other day and the food quality was just bad. The remodel under the new ownership has sadly stopped me from ever returning. On a side note the older waiter was fast and

Pastrami sandwich was excellent nice and tender not too fatty. The BBQ brisket was excellent I subbed out fries for some sweet crispy onion rings. Israeli salad was refreshing and the chicken soups was excellent don't forgot you need to add order matzo balls added to your soup.Lunch was served with kosher pickles and coleslaw. Try adding the coleslaw to your BBQ brisket sandwich.?

The only thing good about this restaurant is that it was easy to get a table - the food was fine, at best and they didn’t have many deli staples - like no bagels to serve with the lox plate the Reuben is served only on skinny panini bread. Service was uneven. The waiter kept forgetting our order and everyones meals were brought to the table at different times.
We wanted to try a true NYC corned beef sandwich with the ability to sit down. The place is pretty dated, but the sandwiches and cole slaw were good. Price was decent at $17.00 for the sandwich that I shared with a friend. Plenty of food. My daughter had 1/2 sandwich and soup and the soup was a large bowl, not a cup. All in all, we felt it was a good deli sandwich experience.
Mediocrity is the best word to describe my past few experiences here. Nothing clicks, food arrives tepid in temperature and the overall feeling you get is how do they stay in business. Soup arrived lukewarm at best, stuffed derma was hot on the outside but only warm on the inside and the gravy too was not hot. My friend's potato pancakes were enormous but not hot and crispy which they should always be. The busboy did more work than our waiter, who seemed harried and slightly disturbed when I requested hot soup. I will definitely cross this off my list of places to eat at when in the city craving a deli delight. Brng back Dubrow's!

My wife and I ate dinner at Ben’s recently while visiting the city from Canada. When I visit NYC, I always find a place to fit in a Corned Beef or Pastrami sandwich, this trip I picked Ben’s based on location and mostly positive reviews. When we arrived there was only one other person eating, and the restaurant was uncomfortably silent, a little background music would have been better, but it’s clean and the staff is friendly. My wife tried the Matzo ball soup which she liked, I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a potato pancake. The portions are large, and the menu is extensive, sadly the corned beef was cut on a slicer (not what I expect in a “real” deli), and was very dry. My potato pancake was also very dry. The coleslaw and pickles were very good. Maybe this place shines at lunchtime, but I left rather disappointed.
Ordered hero sandwich here which turned out to be very cold, as if served right out of the fridge, something like grab-and-go airport sandwiches. No special taste to make it any different. To be fair, the waitress was a very nice lady and coleslaw with pickles were both good.
Delicious! It was a cloudy and cool day out. So we were in the mood for some “food for the soul”! And man this was perfect! We loved it. We’ll be back soon! Thank you ?
Absolutely delicious! Greatly enjoyed the cole slaw and pickles that each table gets. Sure beats bread! Delicious matzoh ball soup, potato knish, and pastrami sandwich. Excellent service. Can't wait to eat here again next time I visit NYC!
