If you’re looking for classic, no-nonsense Chinese food in NYC, Big Wong is the place to go. This spot has become one of my favorite go-to restaurants whenever I’m craving comfort food that hits the spot every single time.

The roast meats here are absolutely legendary. The roast pork is tender with just the right amount of crispy edges and a sweet-savory glaze that’s incredibly addictive. The roast duck is also fantastic—perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and juicy meat. I always order a combination over rice, and they’re very generous with the portions. You’ll leave full and satisfied.

Another must-try dish is the wonton noodle soup. The broth is light but flavorful, and the wontons are plump and packed with shrimp. It’s a simple dish but done so well. If you’re feeling extra hungry, adding roast duck on top is the way to go.

The service is fast and efficient—don’t expect small talk or fancy plating. This is the kind of place where you sit down, order, and the food comes out hot within minutes. That’s part of its charm. It feels authentic and nostalgic, like stepping into a busy Cantonese eatery in Hong Kong.

The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and portion size. It’s honestly hard to find this level of value in Manhattan these days.

In short, Big Wong is a Chinatown staple for a reason. Delicious food, generous portions, quick service, and that comforting, old-school vibe that keeps you coming back. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is a must-visit spot if you love Chinese food.

My sister, and I have been to this place and ordered two bowls of Cantonese congee, and that the food was wonderful and tasty. The service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was that there were people in their eating because it was mealtime, waiters taking orders and people waiting in line to order for takeout.

Ordered Beef with Rice, and that's literally beef + rice, no veggies or side dishes. And on the beef there are HAIRS!!!! 😨😨 Black, long, thick hairs on the corner of one chunk. Immediately lost appetite and check out. Would never go again.

I wanted to like this place but the pork was dry and the bread was stale. For the price, it's okay.

Food is ok but the boss is super impatient to mandarin-speaking customer who never had canto food before. No questions are allowed to be asked, even if you only ask for the first time and ask nicely, otherwise he’ll scold at you. I just asked how large is the portion size before ordering and then he yelled at me… like why yelling?? Will never come to this place again, i mean there are so many more canto food choices in chinatown that serves their customer with good attitude

Food was good!! Wonton soup was subpar which was a little disappointing….but everything else was good. However, I will note that this is the WORST customer service my family & I have ever had at a restaurant. For starters, no pictures??? We tried to take a family picture and were told no pictures allowed and when we asked oh why she just started speaking in a different language angrily…..ok. Second, menus were basically snatched out of our hands when we were still ordering. Wouldn’t return…go to Mei Lai Wah

Ate wonton noodles soup and roast pork rice noodle and beef rice noodle.

It was just okay. The beef noodle needed a lot of sauce.

The noodle was very thick.

Big Wong not the same Big Wong I grew up with.

Interesting place to visit in Chinatown. The menu has many options and the service was quick. Large portions for a fair price, and they only accept cash payment. We ordered the ramen with shrimp and chicken fried rice and spring rolls. The noodles were great, the rice was a little unseasoned, and the spring roll was great. A place with a very simple atmosphere, but it was worth the visit.

Vegetarian options: Vegetables with mushrooms.

The food quality has really went down hill. Now they also charge a gratuity for 2 guests on their bill. Ordered chicken lo-mein. Server bought out vegetable. Then made her aware of it. She just bought out a side of cold unflavored chicken. Then I was a nice guy to pay her tip in cash with a 20.00. she ask can she keep the whole tip. her 20% only came out to $14.00. I told her yes. guess she needed it that bad. Normally I wouldnt object if the food & service was good. But I was terrible. I was going to this place for over 15 years. Never again will I go to this place. I will be going to Flushing to find a new place for Congee & other dishes
