The cupcakes are just o.k. Not only are they tiny, they are also dry. Definitely not worth $5.25 a cupcake. Which is a shame because 15 years ago this place was much better. If they cost more in the neighborhood of 2.50 a cupcake my review would be better. I guess I would only be complaining about how dry they are. Lol. Bottom line is there are way better cupcake places in NYC.

Victim of shrinkflation? I go to Billy's every few weeks for a slice of cake, and recently got the smallest one I've ever seen from them - not only in width of the slice, but height! Comparing the slice I received to an instagram post of theirs from Jan 2025, it seems they've removed a layer of cake so they're all ~1/3rd smaller? Sad to see but hope they're able to stick around!

Ordered a cake for pickup. The cake was $160 for a fancy design, but it did not come as intended during pickup and the staff there is unable to help because apparently all the orders come from the "main bakery" and they told me I had to email customer service. What a miserable setup and negative experience for such an expensive cake

I contacted corporate a while ago and they were so rude.. not sure what they keep listing it on the comments if they are not willing to help.
A friend bought a cake a few weeks ago for a birthday party in the neighborhood and it was so dry we needed to have a glass of water, otherwise I was worried we could chocked.

I ordered a pie for a friend's birthday and although they don't do inscriptions on ours they are still so good. I love the homey area and vibe, it is so nice.

Love this place! I placed an order to make a custom cake for my sister’s birthday and they did an amazing job! They were great at communicating with me in a timely manner and the cake was so good! 10/10 would recommend.

It's a retro and cute bakery popular in New York. They are especially famous for their cupcakes and cheesecakes, which are appealing because they have just the right balance of flavor without being too sweet. The inside of the store is reminiscent of an old-fashioned American bakery, and has a pleasant nostalgic atmosphere. There are many sweets that look cute and are perfect as souvenirs for friends and family. There are stores in Chelsea and Tribeca, so we recommend stopping by while you're sightseeing in New York!

First time customer after hearing about Billy’s for years. Thank you for the incredible cake which made my Mom’s 70th Birthday so special! Not only was the cake beautiful, but the party guests were raving about how delicious it was! 10/10 I’m a believer!!
WARNING!!!! DO NOT ORDER A CUSTOM CAKE HERE AND MAKE SURE YOUR FRIENDS DO NOT ORDER A CAKE HERE. So many customers have had the same issue as me. It feels like a scam. I ordered an engagement cake and it got delivered completely messed up and customer service was awful. I paid $134 for a tiny cake to arrive messed up. I called and they told me they would remake my cake and deliver it by 6pm. Then a different person emailed me back and said the opposite. They didn't offer any sort of make good or even apologize via email. They just said they can remake it if I order and pay again... yeah right lol Such a bummer as I was excited for this cake for my engagement party... wasn't able to have a cake
Amazing peanut butter cookies.

Super disappointing to be writing this review. ..Especially after I was so excited to write a 5 start review for working so closely with me.
I was in an email exchange with Billy’s for a long time to confirm whether or not they COULD do a specific design on a cake. They assured me if I used the order form I could get the specifications I wanted.
See the thing about buying a 30th birthday cake is you want it to be dark, but not “too dark” if that makes sense… because of this I SPECIFIED in the order notes please make both figures “smiling” otherwise it would have been a bit much.
Sadly, they ignored the order notes and probably only looked at the image. Which the image is for inspo not for copying? In my emails back and forth it was implied they would actually read specifications.
They’re a great business for fast turn around time, but the fact that they ignored this extremely important detail means we won’t be coming back again. Especially since there are so many other bakeries we’ve used that confirm specifics if they are unsure. Especially for an almost $200 cake.
You can check my google review account, I rarely write bad reviews so you can tell my family is super disappointed that our order notes weren’t followed :(
